I'm bored at work today and am loving reading everyone stories. That made me think of quite possibly the funniest thing that happened between DH and my dad so I had to start this one.

I have to give you a little back-story. My dad is a big kid at heart and has a running joke that he will just randomly moon you. My family is used to this and it's not a big deal. I told DH about this when we were dating as a warning for the first time they met in case dad got out of hand and his reply was "well then, the first time I meet him I'll just drop my pants and moon him."

I was talking to my sister one night when I had gone home that year for Christmas and we were laughing about it and my dad heard his plan. Not to be outdone he went to a mountain overlook the next day called Hyner View, mooned the camera, did a little photo shopping to change the name to Hynee View and emailed him with a subject line of "Preemptive Strike." (He had DH's email bc DH filled out and sent one of those silly application to date your daughter email forwards to him when we started dating)

So what does DH do? Keep in mind, they have never met in person yet. When he gets the ring, he sets it up on a stool in the foreground, moons the camera in the background, and sends my dad an email back that said when you come down to visit this summer I'm going to ask you for permission to marry your daughter. If you don't want me to ruin your vacation, let me know and I'll fly up and ask you in PA.

When they came down, he asked in person and two months later proposed. I had no idea he had sent that picture to my dad until right before the wedding! Clearly, DH and dad get along great! We still laugh that they shared mooning photos before they'd ever met!

Love it! DH did ask my dad.. In my story about how DH and I met I mentioned that we all knew each other from racing, and so it's funny because MH IDOLIZES my dad.. everytime he talks to him he stutters... still! He asked my dad while they were all out working in the shop apparently. When DH proposed to me I didnt cry until he told me he had already asked my dad!

DH did ask my dad, over the phone. But, I'm not nearly as close with my dad as I am with my mom, so for me it was more important that my mom be included. DH asked my mom to go to lunch with him one day. He took time off from work, drove over to where she works and asked her over lunch.

My DH was naughty and never got permission. Nonethless, I know my dad approved of him. He's the only son-in-law he doesn't talk crap about! My dad's not shy about expressing himself.

That is hilarious!!! DH did not ask my dad, I'm sure my dad didn't care and neither did I. He's not asking to marry my Dad, and I didn't need his permission. I think, also, if you think your Dad might say no, you're with the wrong guy, lol. Also, my dad is ex-military of nearly 30 years, has advanced science degrees and is generally an intimidating person, so no, lol.

My dad is former military too, so DH was plenty scared! Apparently dad let him sweat it out a little bit before answering when DH asked. I agree that if you're afraid they may so no you're with the wrong guy but I totally appreciated the respectful gesture I won't lie.

Justin asked my dad during a K-State football game they went to together. Justin had already bought the ring. My mom and aunt had already seen the ring, and knew a proposal was coming. So I think my dad may have already known something was up, and decided to ask Justin to the game to give them a 2 hour car ride both ways and an entire football game to say something. Justin drank a lot of beers before that game...

It's dirt track.. If you have the versus channel on sat they have a show called dirt knights, its that kind of racing. It's pretty much the biggest money pit of a hobby, but I was raised with it so I have a love for it.. DH is lucky!

In the middle east women are traded for camels. For years my dad and I would joke about trading me for camels. DH and my dad were friends which is how I met DH so he knew about the camel joke. He asked my dad one day when they went out for lunch and gave my dad 4 toy camels which are now displayed in my Dad's living room.

My future DH called my parents' house to speak to my dad. My mom didn't know who he was because my future DH goes by his middle name and his first name was the one that came up on the Caller ID. My dad was actually out coaching his middle school basketball team, so future DH asked my mom instead and she said, "HELL YES!!!"

Hilarious millejj1!!!

DH did not ask my dad for permission. If he was going to ask anyone for permission, it would have been my mom. Though my dad and I have a great relationship now, he wasn't always a part of my life and my mom pretty much raised me on her own. However, mom is notorious for not being able to keep a secret, so DH chose not to ask her permission for fear that she would end up ruining the surprise.

I wish!! Those guys do it for a living, they tour the country.. and while MH has a pretty good car he couldnt compete with those guys.. they have prob $50,000 ++++ in their cars.

DH was so nervous asking my parents to marry me. He went over to their house and my parents knew as soon as they saw him pull up with out me in the truck. He had planned it all in his head on the way over and forgot what/how he wanted to say when he got there. They said of course and that it was about time

Wow thats amazing! lol I that story!

DH and I were dating for 3 years before we got engaged, I don't think he ever officially asked my dad but we had been talking about marriage for a long time. After we had been dating for maybe 6 months or so my dad started telling me that if we broke up I'd be out of the family and they'd keep DH instead. Mind you I have 3 brothers and no sisters, so that means my dad would give up his Only girl for another boy! lol needless to say my DH and dad loved eachother! They were like best friends!!

Edit: Oh and BTW my DH's bachelor party involved him going to dinner and an indian casino with his best man, my dad and my brothers! LoL He even spent that night with my dad!

Aww, this is a fun post. I love reading these stories!!

My DH did ask my dad, as well as my mom. He stopped by the house when I was at work to ask for their blessing. They not only gave it to him, they also gave him the diamonds for my engagement ring (they are from a ring my dad gave to my mom). My dad is VERY old fashioned. There was no marrying his daughter w/o asking!

OP, that's such a great story!

DH asked my Dad when he and my Mom were on a trip down to visit us. We were walking the beach and DH and Dad were a little piece ahead of me and my Mom. I couldn't hear what they were talking about, saw my Dad get noticeably excited... then out of nowhere, Dad stops walking, turns around and yells to my Mom, "Mr. Stratton23al has something to ask you!" so DH was put totally on the spot... and I think not wanting to ruin Dad's excitement to asked my Mom's permission too, except right in front of me. I had no idea he was planning to ask permission, but knew the engagement was coming. So thank goodness it didn't foil any major surprise DH was planning, but it was still pretty funny to see Dad's lack of common sense in handling the situation/cute to see how excited he was!

My dad and I never really got a long...but my Mom..she's like my best friend. I gave FI specific instructions to ask/talk to her about it, not my Dad.

She knew something was coming..and we actually went to her house first before we went to dinner, and he showed her the ring and asked her for advice. I never caught on or knew anything. Coming back to her house later to show off the ring, it was just so perfect.
