Ob/gyn and hospital recs

It looks like my husband could be tranferred from New York to Toronto in the coming months. I'm about 5 months pregnant. If this possible move happens soon, I'm worried about findnig a good ob-gyn doctor (I'm considered high-risk due to my age and previous medical history) and hospital up in Toronto. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi iahlgren! I'm in the exact same situation. We moved here from PA about 4wks ago and I just found out I'm pregnant last week. Over Easter I went and saw my obgyn in PA and she confirmed the pregnancy and did some blood work... but now I am on the search here in Toronto also! That is my goal today to find someone so I will keep you updated and if you could too that would be great! Thanks and congrats!!

    Hi there,

    Many of my friends recommended Mt Sinai hospital to me and that is where I will be delivering.  I am 5 months along and have been very impressed with their care so far.  I know they have a high risk pregnancy department.  My ob is also there.

    The GTA is a big area. Depending on where you are in the GTA, could make a difference for where you deliver.

    Do you know where in the GTA you will be?

    You might also want to keep in mind that our health care system in Canada is very different than the states - we don't always have a choice of who our OB is - have you ever thought of finding a midwife? Midwives are able to deliver in all hospitals in Canada and I'm pretty sure that in Toronto if you decide to get an epidural you are able to stay in the care of your midwife instead of being transferred to an OB. Something to think about....

    Thanks for your suggestions! I'm guessing my husband's company would have to give us private insurance... I'm not sure if we'd be covered under the Canadian health care system as expats (at least not for a while). In any case, the hiring process is taking a long time. Even if he gets the job, there's a good chance I'll end up delivering the baby here before we move. If the move somehow happens fast, though, I will need to find a doctor or midwife.
