This was a discussion on the local radio station. A girl called in because on the first date a guy took her to a fancy french restaurant on South Beach and then pulled out a Groupon coupon.

If a guy did it on the first date, I'm shallow enough that I would have been annoyed. he should have said he had a coupon when he invited me.

If the economy weren't in the toilet I would probably scoff at the coupon and that he took me to a place for our first date that would take a coupon.... However, at this point, I am not above couponing. What was it for? BOGO, Free app/dessert? That might make a difference, too.

Personally I think if he was smart, he would save the coupon for the second date. First date, the girl orders like salad and a water. Second date, she is wearing elastic pants and goes for the steak. I bet he'd save more if he waited til' second date.

Haha! I went on several date with different guys before I met dh, and I used to always order a steak. I figured if I never saw him again, than atleast I had a good meal. Stick out tongue

Honestly, a coupon really doesn't bother me. As long as I didn't have to pay, I don't care how he pays for the meal.

If he took me somewhere nice, and I could order whatever I wanted (not, "I have a coupon and it's only good on x,y or z") then I wouldn't care either way. If we were eating hotdogs in a dive bc he was too cheap to go somewhere else, I'd be miffed.

This.... I think. I'm not really sure what I'd think, but probably this. If I were the one paying with a coupon, I'd be discreet as possible about it. I think it could get slipped into the receipt book thingy without being noticed.

FIL did this on his and MIL's first date... it gets brought up on occasion and she says "That should have been my first clue..." Stick out tongue

It would really depend on how the date went. If it sucked, I would totally make fun of him to my friends later. If it was a great date, I would probably be impressed that he thought ahead.

Coupons don't bug me. Now I was on a first date once and when the bill came the guy pushed it towards me and told me he didn't have a job. We were both fresh out of college but come on! I told him I'd pay for my own and he must've thought the date went well because he kept calling me after.

I would laugh and start talking about my super crazy coupon crazeness! lol when DH & I were dating (and then living together) I was the super crazy person who would get $100 worth of groceries for like $10 or less! I had to stop b/c I don't have time anymore to do it all!

i think i'd be embarassed for him that he couldn't afford the place he was taking me too. i'm all about coupons and happy hours and whatnot but not on a first date w/me. nope, not happening.
