The three things my mom's group seems to think are must haves are Sophie, the Bumbo, and the Moby. Of the three, the Moby is the only one I recommend. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a teething toy and my pediatrician is against Bumbo's because people put their kiddos in them too early and by the time DD was actually ready for one her thighs were too chunky to fit!
Moby ... I have had random other recs here and there but the one that I get most often is the Moby Wrap ... I was already on board before it, but it's fun to hear so many people confirm my decision to get one
The ultimate crib sheet protector. Even if you don't have many middle of the night changes, it's a ton easier to change this weekly than it is the crib sheet itself.
A lot of mama's have been recommending the moby wrap to me as well this time around! I was able to score a free hand-me-down.
As a BTDT mama I always recommend a My Breast Friend to nursing or c-section mama's. It was a lifesaver! I also recommend the Graco Sweetpeace swing. That thing is amazing and it would have been a lifesaver with my first two!
I love the boppy too, but for different reasons than the My Breast Friend. It's great for tummy time, and to support baby.
**Disposable changing pad covers! Saved me so much in the night when DS peed everywhere, all i had to do was toss the cover and I still had one under it.
Sophie is great
A diaper caddy, not even for diapers right away, I used it for all my nursing stuff but now we keep it downstairs with diapers. I have this one
Aden and Anais blankets seem to be popular. A swing was a must for us. A swing that can cradle and swing back n forth is great. Cloth diapers for burp cloths. And I'll throw in my two cents... Gripe Water is nice to have on hand for fussiness. It's all natural, and a miracle cure for hiccups too.

Lots of people have recommended Sophie the Giraffe, a teething toy that apparently lots of people are gaga for.
What things have other parents recommended to you?
Is that what that damn thing is?? My SIL (DH's brothers wife) bought it for me. MIL and I stared at it like "What the heck would she get me a squeaky toy from Pottery Barn for? This is stupid!" But to know it's a teething thing.... it still doesn't make a huge difference, my dog wants to play with it and eat it because it squeaks!!!
My friends who have had kids since I had DD swear by Sophie. I think it looks like a dog toy. Will see if LO gets one. DD1 turned out fine without it. She also never had a bumbo. Oh the horror.
It's funny/ironic to read some of these- because I tried so many with #1 and HATED them.
HATED the Breast Friend pillow- much preferred the Boppy.
HATED the Moby. Have tried to give it away to a few friends and none of them liked it either.
HATED the ultimate crib sheet. The smaller sheet savers worked so much better and were easier to remove at night or if there was spit-up.
HATED the miracle blanket. As soon as we would get #1 wrapped up in it, he was pissed off that he had gotten moved around that much- the swaddle-me worked so much better.
HATED the Bumbo- #1's legs barely fit in it and after doing more research and talking with my pediatrician, I decided it wasn't work the risk of using it.
I LOVED Sophie the Giraffe (already picked up a new one for #2).
I'd also recommend buying a bunch of pre-fold cloth diapers for use as burp cloths- they work the best and are super cheap.

The Soothe and Glow Seahorse (in addition to a few other things mentioned above; this is one I haven't seen mentioned yet).
TOTALLY forgot about this! DS still uses his occasionally. It took a little while for him to catch on but once he got it I would hear him fussing, then the seahorse and golden silence lol!
Re: Non-clicky poll: What do Moms in the know tell you to buy?
SwaddleMe blankets.
Boppy.
Snap N Go.
My Blogs -
sleep outfits that zip up instead of snap up.
I've never heard of this Sophie thing!
A swing (I wasn't going to get one, but everyone that has one says it was a real lifesaver).
Newborn/0-3 clothes that don't have to be pulled over their heads. And side snap shirts for new borns too (so it doesn't irritate the healing cord)

I've been told to get a wipe warmer - I will not buy this (or register for it). I think it's a waste of money.
Also the rubber chair thing that helps baby sit up (registered for it)
and Swaddle blankets.
