Bloody poop ?

Anyone have blood in your LO's poop? We are going tot the pedi in a couple hours, but thought I would see what you ladies have seen. DS has had digestive problems since he was two weeks old. First we were told gas, then colic, but now it seems like it could be a bigger issue. He is EBF and I have given up all dairy and caffiene. I'm hoping it's nothing too serious. Nurse said it could just be irritation from pooping too much, since he goes between 5-7 times a day.

Re: Bloody poop ?

  • I haven't seen blood in my LOs diaper, but I did question the color of some poops to the pedi.  He said only to let him know if we see red or white- any variation of green/brown/yellow/orange is ok.  So i'd say def see what the pedi says...  GL!

I am going through the same thing right now w my LO.   she is also EBF and she has had 4 bm's w blood in them over the past couple of days (all other bm were normal).  i am giving up dairy also and they took a stool sample,   they also think it could be a dairy intolerance/allergy.......if it continues or gets worse, she will have to see a pedi gastroenterologist, so i hope it doesnt come down to that.

We had this with DD1.  She also had mucousy green poop.  Like you, we ruled out dairy and the pedi ended up sending us to a pedi GI.  He said the lining of her intestines had not yet fully matured and that it was getting irritated.  Apparently it happens often with babies and it really isn't much of a concern.  The GI anticipated it to go away by 9 mos and it did.  DD also had fissures from frequent pooping that could have caused some of the bleeding.

Hope this makes sense.  I remember how scary it was and the issue really did resolve itself with time.  DD is now 3, has no allergies and is perfectly healthy!  Good luck!

  • My daughter was showing blood in her poop and the pediatrician diagnosed it as lactose intolerance.  There was streaks of blood in her poop and it looked kinda mucousy.

We formula feed so we had to switch to a soy based formula.  The bloody poop only lasted another couple of days and since then, all has been good  :)
