So...I work at home very part-time. My schedule is super flexible. I can basically do as much or as little work as I want but would really like to take on a little more to help support our finances and bills. My sister is a nanny for a family with 3 kids currently but will be out of work for the summer starting next week so I've been thinking of hiring her a couple days a week for 2-3 hours at a time so I can focus on work between those hours. Even though she is my sister I plan on paying her especially considering she'll be out of her other job after next week. Though I've contemplated just working during his nap times, I have a hard time getting things done related to housework if I use nap times for working only. So... I thought this may be a good way to get more work accomplished with having my sister here to watch DS!
Anyone know what a fair hourly rate is these days?
Re: Fair hourly rate for sitter for 5 month old!?
In the area where I live you will pay between $3.00--6.00 per hour.
I only have to pay 4.00 per hour which I think is a steal
Really? I'm originally from the region as well, and I know I was paid more than that when I was in high school and babysat (I got $10 an hour). That's not even close to minimum wage at $4 per hour! I would at least pay minimum wage, especially if it is your sibling if it is at all possible for you financially. I wouldn't want my sister to not be able to pay her bills because I paid her less than what she would make working fast food to be with my child!
I WAH too!
$12-15 was the rate I was consistently quoted when interviewing.
I required a BSc for my nanny, so I pay on the upper side of that. And she gets PTO.
There are some regional differences... but we generally pay $11-$15/hour. When I was a nanny I made $18-$20 an hour, but I'm a certified teacher and certified in infant first aid/cpr, etc. etc. etc.
DD goes to daycare and I only pay $110 a week. A babysitter coming to your house and only caring for your child/children is a whole different ballgame (IMO).
I live in NW Indiana (Highland to be exact) and my sitter only charges $2.50 an hour. K is there from 7-5 everyday so I pay her $125.00 a week. She also watches my older daughter sometimes! I feel extremely blessed to have her, and I have tried to give here more money, but she will not accept it. She is a SAHM and her kids are older so I think she just likes having a little baby around.
We have a PT nanny that comes to our home 15 hrs a week and we pay her $10 an hour. She is a college student. We interviewed around 5 people and that seemed to be the going rate.
This we pay $25 a day but she is only with them from 1 to 6 pm. Her regular rate is $8.25 per hour.
This is just what my sitter charges me per hour. Its 130.00 per week.
I was on the hunt this week for a new sitter and the range per week around here was from $75.00 to on the high end of $240.00 which equals between 3.00 to 6.00 per hour on a 40 hour work week.
My sister was my sitter also and I paid her $125.00 but she also worked a full time job and this was her go out and play money.
