Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Gals with Cats and Babies, come in!

So while Abigail was napping it was quality time with the kitty. Dakota and I were cuddling on the couch watching Holmes on Homes when *GASP* I think I see a flea scramble away from where I'm scratching Dakota under her chin. Crap. She's an indoor puss, but I think she may have picked up some fleas when she managed to go exploring ten feet outside our door last weekend.

I know my husbands first reaction is going to be to bomb the house. I hate the idea of having pesticides all over the surfaces in the house, but especially now with Abigail. What do I do?! Will AbbaZabba be okay if my husband bombs the house?

I'm sitting here scratching just thinking about those darn things. Please help!

Re: Gals with Cats and Babies, come in!

  • don't over react yet.  Just because there was a flea on the cat doesn't mean the whole house is infested.  Give him a cat bath first, and see what happens for a few days.  I am sure that if the whole house is bombed the baby would have to move out for a few days.  I wouldn't want my kids in a house that was recently fumigated.  Even if "they" said it was ok.

  • Thanks. I totally get that the house won't be infested, but DH may not. He's threatened to bomb the house over spiders and ants before.

    Cat bath: TONIGHT!

  • I'd be cool with a flea collar until LO is old enough to grab or suck on it.

  • Give him a bath. It's just one flea. We had a flea outbreak last summer and gave our dogs Capstar and they were gone in 24 hours.

Because we live in a very heavily populated critter/bug area (SC), our house is sprayed monthly but only the outside. If we see a lot of spiders or anything inside, then they'll spray inside but the LL and the company is not keen on bringing pesticides inside with a dog and a baby living here "just because">

  • I always use Advantage or Frontline on my cat.  Takes care of the flea problem within 24 hours.
