advice: traveling with big lovey?

So S has never had a lovey, until we moved 2 months ago.  Now, she cannot sleep without pink elephant.  Um, pink elephant is bigger than her brother.  Its f'in huge.  Whatever at home, no problem- tuck pink elephant in all night, fine...

But, um, we're flying to Mexico in a few weeks... and she's expecting pink elephant to tag along.  Now she doesn't play with pink elephant during the day, its strictly a bedtime thing.  Do we really have to pack this thing in its own dang suitcase?

Any other solutions?

  • it's stuffed animal right? can you put it in a big ziplock (storage bag) and then roll it up compressing it into a sorta flat thing?

  • I like the pp suggestion but if it were me, I'd see if I could possibly find a small & similar version of it. If it doesn't work, then I'm not too sure what I'd do...most likely stuff it into something.

Ditto. Those vaccuum bags can get stuffed animals pretty small, but then once he's out you'd have to be prepared to pack him back up on the way home.

  • I think that I would try to find a small pink elephant to take with her and if necessary make up some cute story about why the small one is going on the trip instead.

Yeah, this.  Get her a smaller stuffed to and maybe tell her, "Big Pink Elephant couldn't come w/us on this trip but she wanted to send along this friend to be with you while you're gone," or something like that.  Also, does she sleep w/a pillow?  Maybe part of what she likes about the elephant is cuddling w/the big, soft, pillow-like thing so maybe a pillow (or extra pillow) in her bed would help?  Good luck!
