Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
My yearly exam should have been in Feb, but I didn't go since it it likely my vision has changed a little being pregnant. Well I just realized I only have 2 more contacts left. I was going to order them (through Walgreens.com) but my prescrip. is obviously expired.
Well I called the Dr's office to explain my dilemma, and the girl just says they can't extend my script so I can order another box even if I'm pregnant!
It just doesn't make sense because if I would have gone in & my script was different, then I'd be wasting my money if my eyes change again after I have the baby.
I know I should have looked into this a while ago but I really didn't think it'd be a problem with the circumstances. And I have VERY bad eyes, so I don't like to wear my glasses because I can't see as well. Plus, I only can get those updated every 2 years so they aren't perfect now either!
I guess this was a vent!
Re: Contacts wearers come in...
I wear contacts and also worked at an eye doctors office. I would try asking again, maybe use the torn lens excuse but that might only get you one. We would allow patients to purchase a pair of trials to hold them over...they're the same as the regular lenses, they last the same amount of time...and their cheaper than an entire box, or at least they should be.. I worked at Sterling Optical. HTH
I didn't ask about samples...I was just stunned when she flat out said they won't extend the prescription even if I'm pregnant. Maybe I'll stop in or call another time & hopefully talk to someone else!
The 2 I have left will probably get me through until I have her, but then do I really want an appointment right after I give birth? And if my eyes have changed I'd think it would take a few months for the hormones to go away & back to normal. Geez!
yeah I guess I may have to go in. I would think they'd be a little more understanding. Granted I should have called around when my yearly should have been or made sure to order extra contacts the last time.
I was out last month and they also wouldn't extend my prescription. So, I went in for the exam. My eyesight hadn't changed so I have the same rx. You could go and get the current rx but only order one box and then get them changed if you need to like the PP said.
Or, try 1800contacts. I think they usually send you stuff anyway.
Really they don't check? I've used about 3 different places to order my contacts but never them. But I always have to wait until they get it verified. Hmm, maybe I'll try.
Only thing is if my script was different & then changed again after I give birth. I'd be spending $$ on contacts & don't need. Oh yeah, my eyes are different so I'd need 1 per eye which sucks & I only get 1 exam per year through insurance.
I placed an order with 1800contacts so we'll see if it works. Otherwise I'll probably go in, try to get a couple more sample pairs & make an appt. for after I have the baby. I just don't know how long after would be safe.
I'm an optometrist myself in Canada, so things might be a little different but, here is my 2 cents! Normally I would extend the rules in special circumstances so I would've asked again (or have the staff ask the eye doctor directly...sometimes staff just follow these rules and won't bend them). If that doesn't work, go in for the Eye exam anyways and he / she can actually tell you if your script is different. There are a lot of things during pregnancy that can make you think your rx has changed when it hasn't. If it has changed they can either give you the new Rx and just order one box or stick with the old rx and recheck it later. If it were me, it would depend on how much it had changed (ie are you safe to drive with old rx).
1800contacts is fine if you're responsible and need the odd pair to tie you over, but the fact that people here are going many years without having an eye exam tells me that it can be dangerous. There are so many complications that can occur because you're wearing contact lenses. I see at least 1-2 complications per day because someone is abusing contacts and they haven't had a recent eye exam to prevent it!!!! And, you can't always tell when your vision has changed.
Hope this helps everyone!!!
Thanks for your info. I really don't feel like my eyes have changed too much but it could be slight to where I don't notice. My eyes are pretty bad & normally change slightly each year. But I always go for my yearly since my eyes are so bad & I take care of my eyes/contacts as best as I can.
I haven't heard if my order has gone through, but if not I will go in & talk to them. If nothing else, I'll just have to make an appt. for early June eventhough I will most likely just had my baby. I just need Lasik!!
Just go in for your appointment. If your eyes have changed talk it over with the doctor and see if he will let you keep your same prescription or get some samples until after the baby is born and come back in to check again. I went to my eye doctor a month ago and didn't have any significant changes to warrant getting a different prescription.
