Re: leg cramps already?!

  • I have had HORRIBLE leg cramps this week- I woke up 3 nights ago whimpering it hurt so bad. My leg still hurts- I have been trying to stretch before bed and using a heating pad. It's going to be a long 3 months...

  • Leg cramps are quite common even when not pregnant.  Magnesium, Calcium, and Potassium all can effect your legs.  Are you making sure you are getting enough of these nutrients?  Too much calcium can also cause them.

  • I've been having them since week 20... and F, S, F, S is exactly what I say over and over.  I want to chop off my legs.

  • Must be something in the air... I've had them too and they're awful.

  • I've had a few in the last week or so, but this morning was the WORST! It happened at around 6:00 when my husband was leaving for work so he rubbed my calf a little which helped and it went away but my leg is still sore right now and it's three hours later!

I have randomly gotten them in my regular life (always my calves), but it's been a long time. And I've never had one like this morning. I didn't know it could be a pregnancy thing. Fun.

  • I didn't get them until 30+w with DS, but was unexpectedly surprised by them even earlier this time. I've had leg cramps since 20 weeks. :( There are certainly much better ways to wake up!

I get leg cramps periodically while I'm sleeping the past few weeks. It's definitely not fun to wake up to. However, I find if I eat more bananas, I have fewer leg cramps. I'm guessing I have a potassium deficiency sometimes.

  • Ugh! Yes! I got my first bad one last night and it was awful!

I woke up screaming "F*ck, f*ck! Charlie horse, Charlie horse!" Unfortunately our dog's name is Charlie so my screaming his name made him think it was time to wake up and play.... All around a good night. Sleep

  • Yep, they're miserable.  I've been lucky and have been mostly able to flex my foot to ease them before they get really bad.  I did wake up the other night screaming and somehow DH knew exactly what was going on and grabbed my leg to work it out for me.

I had no idea about the excess calcium... I drink A LOT of milk these days.

  • I've only had them once since getting pregnant, but after I got them I make SURE I stretch my calves out really, really good every night. I don't know if it actually works, but so far so good!

  • I've gotten a just a couple calf ones so far, but the worst are when I get a cramp in my foot!  I seem to get those more frequently.  Does anyone know if its a dehydration link?  I only tend to get them at night, and I always wake up parched.  I eat a banana everyday.  Or is it just another 'suck it up, your pg' thing?

Ditto the bolded, I have been getting these every now and then lately and thought I just wasn't drinking enough water or something, it never occured to me that it was pregnancy related
