Picc Line F/U

I have hypermesis during this pregnancy (I am sick around 5-10 times a day every day), and it has been quite the trial.  I have lost 11 lbs so far, and I have been hospitalized twice.  My Dr. suggested a picc line a couple days ago, and I posted asking for everyone's thoughts and experiences.  Anyway, she decided on a zofran pump instead because she was concerned about blood clots.

We then had insurance drama all afternoon.  I think it is all resolved now, but wow I never knew how awful insurance companies can be!

I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on.  I am just waiting on home healthcare to call and get me set up with the zofran pump.  I'll have a backpack or fanny pack and be hooked up and receiving medicine 24/7.  This has been one of the hardest experiences I have ever gone through.  I never knew what a physical and emotional toll being ill 24/7 can take.  Thanks for all your thoughts and input!

  • Aw sweetie, I feel your pain. I was hosp. with hyperemesis as well, although It is starting to ease off a little for me...it seems like it anyway.  I only throw up twice a day or so now.  Im so sorry you are going through this, it is so much harder than I ever would have thought.

I hope the Zofran pump works wonders for you.  Were you on Zofran at all before this?  Have you reacted well to it?

  • I'm glad you are feeling a little better!  I am on the Zofran ODT as well as Phenergen pills at night.  They worked at first, and still work sometimes, but  not well enough to function like a normal person.

This is my last week of class for my undergrad degree and then I have finals next week. I have an hour and half commute to school three days a week, so I have been so stressed with all of this!  I can't believe I have survived the semester.

  • I was.  I was on 8mg every 4 hours since 8 weeks, and that really helped me.  A few weeks ago I just couldnt take the constipation anymore, so I stopped taking it.  I had talked to my midwife, and she said if I felt like I could ease off on it, then I could if I wanted.

Like I said before though, and Im not trying to be insensitive, from the sounds of things that I have read about other womens exp. with HG, I don't have it as bad as some.  Which makes me want to cry for you, cause I was miserable as it was.

The constipation is awful, I agree.  DH and I have been together for almost 7 years, and we NEVER discussed bodily functions.  I'm just a private girl, and holy cow those doors have been opened wide since this experience!  LOL!!

And you're really sweet.  It has been a terrible experience, but everything could always be worse.  LO hasn't had any complications, so I am very thankful for that.

  • I am so happy you will be getting some relief! I had hypermesis too. I am down 25 pounds & have been in the ER three times and in the hospital four times. It is SO hard being so sick. Right now I know it's hard to see the end. But at 17 weeks, I started feeling so much better. I am still nauseated constantly, but the relief I feel from not throwing up multiple times a day is amazing. Just keep holding on, one day you will wake up and feel so much better, i promise!
  • Mine was/is not nearly as bad as y'alls. My OB gave me Zofran at 6 weeks and I had to stop taking it since I was having horrible stomach pains on top of all the nausea/vomiting. At 8 weeks I was admitted to L&D for fluids/phenergan iv's since I was keeping nothing down for more than 48 hours.

Thankfully the Phenergan made it much better. I was taking it every 4 hours for weeks. In the past week or two I have been able to start taking it only as needed but still throw up almost daily.

I pray that the Zofran pump works! I know you're miserable. :-(
