and we're exhausted! We swear they gave us another set of twins when we left. The girls were sooo cranky last night and we did not get more than an hour or two of sleep. We know and expect to get up to feed them every 3 hours but did not expect to have them cry all night! Out of the 5 hours per day I spent at the NICU every day, I never heard them cry like that.
Regardless, we are so happy! I think we will all adjust after a week or so, right?! The in home nurse will be stopping in today, so I plan to ask her alot of questions.
I still can't believe any of this is real. After so long of trying so desperately to have a baby, I never ever thought this would be a reality for us.
Re: We're home!
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
Yay for coming home!!!
Some unsolicited advice: White noise!! My DS was in cardiac ICU for a few months after his birth (and was always a great sleeper there) but once we came home we had several nights of crying all night
Our ped was the one who suggested that maybe our house was too quiet... sure enough we got a little white noise machine and he started sleeping a lot better... I guess they get used to all the beeps and monitors buzzing...
Good luck!! And YAY again for being home!!! Your babies are precious!!!

Yeah Loree!!!!!
Mine did the same thing on their first nights home from the NICU. Nightmare!
I think they got so used to the little dings and dongs from the machines in the NICU, that it was to quiet here at home. And mine were only there for like a week. So I am sure yours are doing the same adjustments. Might even be an idea to have some kind of white noise for your babes for awhile or a couple nights till they adjust to their new surroundings.
Good luck and hang in there. I haven't slept in two nights now either! LOL.
The first night is the worst. It will get better.
I'm so glad your girls are home! Enjoy them!

Congratulations. The sleep will get better. I have yet to get a full or near full or good nights sleep, BUT it is SO much better than those first few weeks home.
The good thing is, while I am tired, it is SO worth it!!
