3rd Trimester

XP: Should I send DH to work?

Been up since 1 timing contractions off and on. Right now, they are about 9 min apart and a min long. Bloody show yesterday morning and at yesterday's appointment, I was 3cm, 80%, and LO was at -1. All night, every time I pee, there's a bit of blood-tinged mucus. I've had irregular contractions in the middle of the night every night since saturday, but they aren't painful like these are and I feel nothing by morning. I feel like this is different, but this is my 1st and I'm not sure what to expect. I would hate to have him stay home if this is just a false alarm... What do you think? FTR, DH works about 20 min from home.

Re: XP: Should I send DH to work?

  • If I were in your situation, I'd send him to work; especially if he only works 20 min away.  I know my DH would be hovering and freaking out if I were in labor, but not yet ready to go to the hospital.  Maybe when your ctrx get closer together have him come home?

  • Id say send him to work if you are comfortable being on your own for a while. Take a bath, relax and see how things go. You can always call him home if things start moving along since he is only 20 mins away. Good luck

  • With DD #2, I labored like that all day - not painful but regular contractions.  I didn't go to the hospital until 12 hours later (I was 4cm dilated on Monday, this was Friday).  It could be awhile!  20 minutes isn't all that far - send him to work.  Invite a friend or someone else over to keep you company.  GL!

Thank you! You're right. This could be a bit!

  • With DD #2 I labored at home by myself all day and had sent DH to work. We ended up going to the hospital later that evening and having her that night. I just found out the other day that DH was mad at me for sending him to work. He was exhausted from working all day and then having to come home and stay up all night at the hospital. I felt bad as soon as I found out. This time around if I am having contractions DH will be spending the day with me.

Yikes! I can see that. But DH and I were both on the same page this morning, which was: "I don't want to leave you here if you think this is happening today, but I also don't want to waste a day of paid leave if this could be another stalled labor day." I completely agreed with his concerns. I'd much rather labor at home by myself (as long as I'm comfortable) and have him here when contractions are getting close enough that I know things are progressing so he can enjoy as much of his paid leave off with LO and I together.

DH asked me what I thought and I honestly had no clue really... But I feel terrible for him today because he was up all night with me and got no sleep before going to work. He does it all with a smile though. Such a good guy. Big Smile
