Flying after 34 weeks.

I'm going to be flying home this weekend for my two baby showers and I just turned 34 weeks. My doctor of course said it was ok for me to fly home but anytime past this would not be ok, she didn't say much in terms of giving me any tips for staying comfortable during the flight, granted it's only an hour and 15 minutes.

I was just curious if anyone else has had to fly this late in the pregnancy and any tips you ladies may have on how to have an enjoyable flight being this pregnant. I love love love flying and would hate to have a sour experience.

Re: Flying after 34 weeks.

  • I've flown several times through out this pregnancy with the last being at 31 weeks.  I am honestly really glad to be done with that until after the baby is born.  I think for an hour and fifteen minutes it shouldn't be too bad.  Just drink lots of water and if you can get up to move around you should do it (aisle seat is key because trying to get out with the belly is rough!).  Good luck and have fun at your shower!

  • I.flew at 26 weeks and it was pretty uncomfortable. I.was on a three hour flight , and hour fifteen sounds a lot.better! I wpuld Def suggest getting an aisle seats you can get up and move and go.to.the.bathroom without bothering anyone. Good luck I'm sure it will go.quick and easy!

  • An hour and 15 minutes won't be too bad.  Get an aisle seat, drink water, and walk around - you will be fine, but uncomfortable (probably).

  • Just in case it's a bumpy flight... try to make sure you go to the bathroom BEFORE they close the door to taxi out. I've been in many 1 1/2 hour flights where the pilots never turn off the seatbelt sign if it's bumpy!!

  • Thanks for all the advice. I figured drinking water and being able to walk around would be as much as I could do but I've just been a little worried about flying at this stage. I'll be sure to get an aisle seat :)
  • I flew 2 weeks ago for a 2.5 hour flight and it was uncomfortable but certainly doable, so 1.25 hours should be ok.  Agreed about using the bathroom right before you go and getting an aisle seat.  I know they say to drink water, but honestly I think it depends on how your flight is going. My flight was really turbulent and the pilot never turned the seatbelt sign off, so I think if I'd had anything to drink I would have been really uncomfortable needing to use the bathroom but not being able to.

If possible bring a small pillow for your lower back and prop your legs up on a small bag under the seat in front of you, and be sure to stretch your legs and roll your ankles if you can.  Since I couldn't get up I just stretched them into the aisle from time to time.  Have fun at the shower!

  • I flew a lot for work durring my second trimester, but my doctor told me no flying after 32 weeks (which I will reach on Monday).  I was hardly showing when I flew, butI found that streatching my legs out in front of me and moving my feet and ancles a lot helped.  If I didn't they would kind of swell up by the end of the day.

     Have fun!
