1st Trimester

why does it feel like I did 1 million sit ups?

I'm 5 weeks along, and today and yesterday my stomach has been feeling like I've done a million and one sit ups.  The muscles feel tight, I thought at first it was because of stress, but I don't think it would always feel like this; is this normal?  Does this feeling stay throughout the entire pregnancy?

  • I have that same ache. I've even described it the same way. Not sure if this feeling will stick around all nine months though since this is my first.

  • I had the same a few weeks ago.  It passes.  Stretching seemed to help me.  Cats and cows stretches seemed to feel the best...like I was stretching everything out in there.  (If you don't know what cats and cows are, try to google it...its a yoga move).  It was recommended to me, and I am still using them to stretch my back.

  • Same here! It's so weird that it feels like I've worked out my abs, but I haven't Embarrassed bad Fletcha.

Must be all the stretching and changes going on in that area. And yes, stretching does feel good and I'm sure will help the muscles adapt.

  • I've had this too. I woke up a few mornings ago trying to figure out WTH I could have possibly done.

  • I feel the same way.  I remember it happening in my previous pregnancies too.  I don't remember this feeling lasting too long.

  • haha well, I'm glad it doesn't last too long... I'll have to break out the wii fit later and try some of those yoga moves... [I am the worlds least coordinated and most clumsy person, so chances are high, I'll break something in the house]

  • That happened to me a lot earlier on, too. It happens every once in awhile now but not so often, and not so intense. I couldn't even stand up straight and arch my back, the muscles were so tight/sore! Apparently it happens more often when you curl up in a ball when you're sleeping or laying down. Keeping your body more straight is supposed to help. Either way, it will pass!

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. Yup, due Christmas Day! We're trying to think of clever Christmas-theme ways to announce to family.

  • Glad I'm not the only one - I'm 5w2d - been worrying as I had a mmc last year but trying to relax :)  Seems to be an ordinary feeling in early pregnancy, along with gas pains and the like!  :)
