This makes me so sad and sick to my stomach. Until you really take the time to read every.ingrediant in every.thing you buy and really study and learn, you have no idea how toxic this stuff can be. I mean, seriously, baby shampoo?? When did people ever decide it was okay to produce soap that has stuff like that in it? And we wonder why kids are so much sicker these days than they ever have been before. Seriously, it just really irks me.

The sad thing is these companies aren't required to list all active ingredients so we as consumers never really know what is in them.

Yep. FDA regulation of cosmetics is nowhere near the scope of food/drugs. There are actually approvals that companies can seek out from the FDA, but the FDA doesn't actively evaluate a lot of things. Or at least, last time I researched it, this was the case.
that first came out over a year ago i think. i only remember because FIL sent out an email about it because he has used that shampoo every day for like 40+ years and is the oldest man i know that still has awesome, thick, non gray hair. lol

That's hilarious.
I used that stuff every.single.day as a kid. I remember begging my mom to let me use "grownup" shampoo because I was so tired of using stuff "for babies." It was such a huge deal when she finally let me start using Pantene shampoo.

What? Sicker than when they used to die regularly from the flu, or polio, or any number of other diseases?? 1 in every 100 kids didn't make it to their first birthday at the beginning of the century.
Death before age 1 decreased every year from 1900-1997.
Ok, ok. As is par for the course, I have to say it (of course w/ the disclaimer that we all make decisions that we feel are best for our families). With the risk of sounding like a broken record...
Everything is toxic. Everything in the whole entire world. Depending on the type and amount of exposure, everything has the potential to be fatal.
Now, I'm not saying that there is a need to have it in soap. But I can say w/ fair certainty that J&J had a team of toxicologists reviewing every.single.ingredient in that shampoo (especially since it is a baby shampoo and they don't eff around w/ kids' products), letting them know the "safe" exposure rate vs. risk.
Erincutts- your comment, "Until you really take the time to read every.ingredient in every.thing
you buy and really study and learn, you have no idea how toxic this
stuff can be," stood out to me. Because you're right, absolutely. However, "toxic" unfortunately, has become a buzzword. People hear big chemical names + toxic and it causes a visceral response. Usually, danger!
In the immortal words of Paracelsus, "The dose makes the poison." In other words, it's not the *ingredient* that is dangerous, it is the amount and form in which it is taken in by the body that gives it the *potential* to be dangerous.

I can't speak on J&J specifically, since I know nothing about it from a scientific standpoint.

Methylene chloride *is* organic, btw. It's an organic solvent. Organic =/= safe.
