Mini freak out :/

I've been pretty good about staying calm and level headed.  I'm not dilating or anything, blah blah blah.  But it just hit me that he coul show up early.  If I were to have him today, and everything went ok other than him being a bit early, would I be able to bring him home would he stay a few extra days?...I know questions for the doc. but I'm trying to put my mind at ease, and AVOID playing doctor on google.  TIA

  • It depends, but more than likely he would stay for a bit. He'd still be pretty early..they'd need to make sure he could gain weight, eat, and that everything was developed. A co-worker just had a baby at 33 weeks and she is still in the hopsital after about a week and a half.

  • It goes on a case to case basis.  My DS arrived at 34 weeks after I developed severe Pre-E and HELLP and stayed 2 weeks in the NICU because he wasn't sucking right away.  Plus the test to make sure the baby will be ok in a car seat for about an hour before sending them home (some baby's heads will flop and cut off their air supply)...they don't let the baby go home until they pass this test.

I know babys who have gone home after being born at 35 weeks.  When my DS was in the NICU there was actually a baby born full term who speant a week in the NICU...I don't know the reasoning behind it though.
