Hmm, our school sent out an email with different themes for different days. One is a card day, one is a flower day, one is a potluck appreciation luncheon day.
Yay for me not having to think up ideas on my own.
I give them our tuition. If he were at a public school, I'd make more of an effort on a nice gift. If anything, we will do a homemade or food gift this year. He's got something like 4 or 5 regular teachers between his two rooms. That's a lot of gift cards. I would have no idea that teacher appreciation week even existed without this board.
no flames.
As a teacher, I have come to not get appreciated by the children much. I am not being snarky. When I got into this career, I knew it was a thankless job--especially at the high school level. When I get something nice, even when it is just kind words that are unexpected, it is very meaningful to me. Personally, I would rather something come to my because the student (or parent) wanted to say thanks, not because it's a week specified on a calendar....kwim?

Shut the f up. They sent you an e-mail with themes for how to celebrate themselves? How... thoughtful.
My ds only has 3 weeks of MDO left (OH, NOOOOO!!!) and I am going to get his teacher a gift card thanking her for teaching/taking care of him this school year.
I feel like she deserves something nice. I know that not everyone or maybe no one does this, but I feel like she is very deserving of it.

It was probably the PTO that sent the email. We don't have anything to do with the planning of the week.
In all honesty, I'd rather have a card with a nice note than anything else. A couple of years ago, a mom made a large cloth square and her son had the whole class sign it for me. I have it up on my wall in the classroom, and love to look at all the signatures and nice words.
I'm giving dd's teacher a mini session. She really wanted to do one earlier this year but now she's getting laid off since she's a first year teacher and all the budget issues. I also really like this.

Our dcp did this too...it was things like their favorite soda/drink, chips, etc.

I totally get that its more convenient. But doesn't it violate all rules of etiquette? On one hand I would be grateful for the ideas. On the other, horribly turned off.

Personally, like I said in my first response, I would rather it come from the kids/parents (for little kids at daycare) to want to show they appreciate me than to just get something because someone told them to do it.

I doubt it was the teachers themselves. More then likely it was the director or office staff.
We will probably just do the GC and some flowers for Abby's teacher. I think she deserves some extra attention for doing a great job. Yes, I pay to send Abby there, but the teacher still only gets a salary(*ETA- hourly wage) not all my money. If it were a Nanny I probably wouldn't since they get all the money directly throughout the year.
*ETA- oh and if she had multiple teachers- more than 2, it would probably just be something homemade.

Sounds identical to the email I got from our DCP, we must be at the same place.
