Britax infant chaperone FITS in Toyota Corolla!!!

Oh my goodness, I am so excited. I went ahead and purchased this carseat about a month ago from Babies R Us (who doesn't carry them in the stores, so I couldn't try it out). I had heard that the rebound bar makes the carseat extra long so that it might not fit in small cars.

Today was one of those days... to the point where I was ready to just pack it up and send it back without even trying it. So thankful for DH who did all the hard work!

We got it installed correctly (we're pretty sure) in the middle of the backseat. The drivers' seat can even move all the way back!!!

Well, as long as it is ok if the back of the seat touches the carseat. Anybody know if that's ok? I didn't see anything about that in the carseat instructions or the car owner's manual.

  • Ah I'm wondering the same. I bought the Britax a few weeks ago. I have a Hyundai Elantra, and it fits in the passenger side with the front seat pushed up almost all the way. I keep googling, and not getting any definitive answers about putting it in the middle...

I just checked the carseat manual. If you are using the latch system, it looks like as long as the latches are not more than 20 inches apart, you can put it in the middle (page 8 of the manual).

  • The middle seat is fine, but i was told it cant be touching the seats in front, that there needs to be at least a finger or two finger widths of space for it to be safe. Not sure if this is accurate (the woman at the store was the one who told us)

I've always heard 1in clearance between the front seats and the carseat.

Good to know - I will check into this more! Thanks ladies!

I highly, highly, highly recommend getting it installed through your police or fire department. They've all been trained on car seat installations and can get them nice and tight (plus every time I've had mine installed through our dept, they use pool noodles to get it even more secure, which I don't think I could do at home). It's free and you'll learn a lot!

It's definitely on the bigger side.  We bought ours this weekend but have a mid-sized SUV and a mid-sized car, so we didn't have any problems.  I would definitely recommend going to a store and trying it out yourself before you order it, to see if you're comfortable getting it in and out.  Just my 0.02.

  • did you install it with latch or the seatbelts? I have a Corolla and was told by the carseat inspector that Toyota does not allow for latch installation in the middle -- doing so uses one anchor from each side, which is unsafe and incorrectly installed. Using the seatbelt is just as safe as latch, and in this case, is the only safe way to install in the middle. Just an FYI! :)

It is currently installed with the latches. Good to know - thanks!! The carseat inspection people are having a check-up in town soon, and we are planning on taking the car by to make sure it is all set.
