Who is planning to CD here? Anyone?? I am about 99% sold on the idea... I have been researching them and spent some time on the CD board. I just love the thought of how much money I can save!!! I have the money to invest upfront so why the heck not?!? I am planning to go to some diaper stores in my area to look at them. I am looking to buy AIO or the pocket type that are one size, I am liking bumGenius and Fuzzi buns so far... I am also going to get some prefolds and covers for the first few months... Not sure what brands yet... If you are planning to CD or already do what do you use? favorite brands, types??
Re: Who Cloth Diapers? (or plans to?)
we cd ds and will cd #2.
we use prefolds and wool covers that i made and also use thirsties covers.
for ds we use prefolds during the day but pockets(stuffed w/microfiber and hemp) at night since he sttn. but up until he sttn we used prefolds 24/7. they work great and are very cheap!
my entire stash for both kiddos cost me less than $300. this will be my first time cding a newborn though. we didn't start w/ds until he was 6 months.
Lots of us are planning to! Here'a a post from this morning, hope it helps

ETA: In that post, I recommended the YouTube videos "Cloth Diapering 101"...really good information! There's also a lot of good info on the CD board about brands, etc...they have an official blog and it's REALLY informative as well. I think the general consensus on that board about brands and such though is that you have to try things to figure out what works best for you. I started just scouring sales and buying up good deals on newborn diapers. I am hoping that plus a Jillians Drawers trial when baby is big enough will help me find favorite brands and build a full stash for post-NB dipes. I
CDs
GL!
Before fitting into one size diapers:
36 Kissaluvs fitted size 0's (5-15lbs)
9 Thirsties Duo Wrap Size 1 covers (6-18lbs)
& 2 Imse Vimse AIO Newborn size (5-15lbs)
After fitting into one size diapers:
12 Sunbaby one size Pockets ($5 each new!) (7-35lbs)
12 Bummis one size AIOs (8-35lbs)
I will probably buy 12 more OS diapers, but I want to evaluate what kind we liked the best before doing so. (Snap vs. Velcro, Pocket vs. AIO, etc)
I've read that the Kissaluvs fitteds really capture newborn poop, and I plan to breastfeed exclusively for as long as possible, so that's why I chose them. Thirsties covers got good reviews, are sizable, come in great patterns, and have a 2nd gusset in the leg. The Imse Vimses are mainly for grandparents and my husband since they go on just like a disposable. The Sunbabies were so cheap I had to try them, plus the prints were super cute. The Bummis are so far my favorite, but they're $24 bucks a pop. Still, for these 62 diapers, it'll be $700 and I'm registered for a lot of them. That's way cheaper than disposables!
I too have been sucked time and time again into the awesome timewarp that is the CD board
Have you found their official blog though? And read through the FAQ's? Whooooooo...lots of good info, but maaaaaaajor time suck
We are going to! In the very beginning we'll use sposies but after the first month or two we'll switch to prefolds and covers. Once the baby gets big enough we'll then introduce one-size pockets. We already have a few Fuzzibunz and Bumgenius.
I'm bringing this thread back to life, because I have a quick question. For those CDing from birth and using prefolds are you buying NB prefolds, or just going with the infant size and folding them down?
I'm torn, because I'm about to order the infant Bummis package, but really wondering if I should get some prefolds first. I do have one AMP NB fitted and a couple happy hempy newborns too, and some covers. Seeing as I don't know what size baby will be when they get here, I'm hesitant to purchase a large NB package.
If anything, I might buy some loose prefolds and a few more covers - what do you think?
I would recommend the newborn prefolds. Folding down an infant prefold might make it so that the diaper doesn't fit well inside the cover and then you run into leaking issues. Prefolds are pretty inexpensive, so I don't see it as a big deal to buy the newborn size for that stage. Plus, most moms I know have two stashes - a newborn stash and then their stash that lasts until potty training because most newborns won't even fit into one size diapers (even though the advertisements tell you that they will - baby usually needs to be about 10 lbs. before fitting into a one-size diaper well). For the newborn stage with DS, I used a combo of NB sized prefolds, kissaluvs fitteds size 0, and four blueberry size small pocket diapers. Then when he outgrew those we switched to our stash of Blueberry pocket one size diapers. I also HIGHLY recommend buying the "snaps" for your one-size diapers if you go that route. The snaps last longer than the aplix or velcro and they won't snag in the washer. They're more expensive, but we spent the extra money because we knew we'd use our stash for baby number 2 as well as DS.
My best friend that has been the one to convince DH and me to CD uses Sun babies almost exclusively. I think she uses Fuzzibunz or Thirsties at night but she LVOES the Sun babies. For as cheap as they are- they are definitely worth trying!!!
I actually received my Sunbabies order today. They look just like Fuzzibunz and have their 3 snap system (2 side, 1 hip), but the elastic is not accessible. I don't have a FB to compare to, but I do have a Bummis and I can tell that my Bummis (which cost 5 times as much) are much higher quality. The PUL is thicker, the outer fabric seems more durable, and the inside fabric is bamboo lined and microfiber stuffed, instead of the microfleece of SB. I did like the thickness of the SB inserts, they feel large and substantial, but size doesn't always matter in this world. Still, for $5 a pop, I think they are pretty awesome!
