Anyone else's DC suffering from red, allergy eyes, right now? For the last few days, J's conjunctive have been pretty pink/red and he rubs at them as the day goes on. I don't think it's pink eye (no discharge). DH has horrible seasonal allergies, and I'm pretty sure J (if not W, too) has inherited the trait, poor guy. Anyway, is there anything I can do to help alleviate his discomfort? I'll probably call the pedi, just to see what they recommend; but I wanted to get your take on it, too.
Re: allergic conjunctivitis
yes, he can take Claritin for kids. You would have to get a dosage recommendation from your doctor, but Justin has been taking Claritin since he was 18 months old due to suspected seasonal allergies. Tyler also takes it when we are visiting someone who has dogs/cats to control his reaction.
It doesn't have the dosage information for a child J's age/size on the package so you'd have to get a pro to tell you how much. I can tell you that Justin takes 1 teaspoon and he weighs 38 pounds. Tyler weighs 28 pounds and takes a half teaspoon.
ETA: I hope you find a solution that works for J! Allergies suck.

The Chronicles of Justin and Tyler
Our doc gave us a clinical dosage for children's Claritin as well for Charlotte. We tried it when she had a runny nose for like 100 days straight. It didn't end up helping...thus no allergies, just a dumb cold. I agree with Katie, just ask the doc and hopfully they will give the okay :0)
Whenever it strikes here the pedi usually prescribes an antibiotic since it usually happens in conjunction with a sinus infection here.
Children's Zyrtec can be really helpful in drying them up though.
Charlotte had problems with seasonal allergies last Spring, she would have red allergy eyes and break out in hives. Her pedi ok'd Children's Claritin, but ya know what works really great for red, itchy eyes or pink eye? Breastmilk! I'm not even kidding. Put a little in his eyes.

ETA: Also, as someone with terrible seasonal allergies, I wouldn't wait 2 weeks to treat if he's really suffering. I try to take Benadryl or Claritin only as needed (when it's really bad) and also use my neti pot and a humidifier. I would at the very least use a humidifier.
