what did you wear to your own baby shower?

The post about bridal shower outfit got me to wondering... What did every one wear to their own baby showers?

I have a friend who was astonished when I told her I plan to wear jeans and a nicer top.  I work in the office of a warehouse so my normal work clothes (when working, not stuck on the couch) is jeans and whatever shirt I feel like putting on.  Other than that, the only dressy clothes I have are the cocktail dresses I bought for our honeymoon.

Do you think jeans are too casual?

Re: what did you wear to your own baby shower?

  • I plan on wearing khakis and just a regular maternity top. My shower is also co-ed about 60 people and kids. So comfort is more important to me lol

  • I wore capri's (jean) and a cute maternity top... I am casual and was not really worried about what to wear.

  • I wore a dress but that was because it was what was comfortable for me.  I have another shower in about 1.5 weeks and I'll probably wear pants and a nice top (it's too hard to cross my legs now).
  • I think jean are fine. My shower is this weekend and I bought some maternity leggings and a cute top to go with it.

  • I wore a sleeveless knit dress from Old Navy to one, a sleeveless button up blouse and black pants to another, and a nice skirt/tank/cardigan to another (given- that one was at work).

  • I'm not having a baby shower with this LO. But I had two with DS, both were surprises....but I kind of had a feeling that they might be what I was going to. But I wore jeans and a long sleeved shirt (it was Jan) to the one at my mom's house. And I wore a pair of cords and a 3/4 length shift to the one my IL's threw. Some people were a little nicer dressed but most were wearing about the same. You're the guest of honor...you should be comfortable!

  • I don't think jeans are to casual, and its your shower, wear whatever you want. I wore a cute black shirt and a comfy cotton skirt.
  • No, I don't.  But then I'm not a fan of the fru-fru type showers.  I like casual.  Personally I wore white linen pants and a teal-ish sleeveless top.

  • i'm not having a shower this time 'round (since it's another boy), but i wore jeans to my shower last time with a cute shirt. one, it's your shower, so you should wear what you want. and two? i've seen many a girl wear a dress or skirt to their shower and the person taking photos got several compromising shots of the mom-to-be.

    have fun!

  • I wore jeans, a cute maternity top with a long necklace to dress it up, and black flats.  I never wear dresses, and my shower was very casual.

  • Dresses to both, but I am not a jeans person, so I would always rather wear a dress or skirt

  • Mine was a surprise shower but I had planned on wearing a dress. That day though, I was in maternity skinny jeans and my regular cuteish floral top as we'd just gotten out of church. I usually wear dresses to church but that day I decided not to because I was thinking we were going to grocery shop afterward.

  • To the one I have Friday night I am wearing skinny jeans, flats and the top will depend on the weather.  Most likely though a tan sleeveless blouse I bought yesterday on clearance and a purple cardigan but I'm not set on that yet.

For my other two showers though I will wear dresses.  To one I'm thinking a tan and red maxi dress and the other a bright blue sundress, depending on the weather.

  • I wore this shirt (from motherhood maternity) with a pair of black pants that I got at JCPenney to my CA shower (This picture was actually taken at a taping of the Martha Stewart show this past week) :)

And, this black dress from  motherhood maternity (with black leggings) at my NY shower

  • If you generally have a very casual style and people expect that from you, you can certainly wear jeans.  I tend to live in skirts, dresses and heels.... and always accessorizing, so I definitely opted for a dress for my shower.  I think it's all about who you are, and sticking to it.

  • For my shower with DD #1 i wore a nice yellow shirt and a pair of black pants. I feel like looking back i was really sloppy looking. But it was ridiculously hot so i ended up putting my hair up in a pony tail and i was super flushed so i looked like a mess i think.  I'm not having a shower this time but i am hosting one for my friend and i'm going to wear either a black dress (same as what NovNYC2006 posted in the pic's) with leggings or a denim skirt with a dressy shirt. And be smart and plan to wear my hair up.

@ NovNYC2006 Where did you get your leggings? I have the same dress and was thinking i'd wear it to a baby shower i'm hosting for my friend this weekend with leggings cause i wanted to be more comfy with running around hosting.

  • I have one shower this weekend where I will be wearing a knee-length dress from Target with a crochet shrug and some nude heels.

I have 2 showers in late May and plan to wear stuff that will cover my inevitable cankles. One will be jeans and cute top, the other might be a maxi-dress or maybe even jeans again.

Jeans are fine. You're the guest of honor, wear what you want.

  • I bought a cute new (non-maternity) dress from JCPenney today that I love.  I like to dress up tho :)

If you want to wear jeans, rock 'em - don't worry about what other people say - it's your body so be comfy!

  • I wore a casual dress with tights, flats, and a cardigan to my shower. I think jeans and a nice top would be fine though! You're the guest of honor...you can wear whatever you feel like. I think pants would be really practical too; then you wouldn't have to keep you knees glued together from fear of accidentally flashing the camera while you're opening presents like I did!

  • I wore jeans and a cute blouse to mine.

  • I also plan to wear a cute top and some khaki capri's. My shower will be laid back, close fam and friends. Who cares...
  • black leggings, silk tunic top from motherhood, black wedges

  • I'm wearing jeans and a cute top. If I had kahki capris to wear, I might. But honestly, I'd rather wear jeans and flip flops and a cute top so that I'm comfortable, don't have to worry about flashing anyone in a skirt cause I can't cross my legs, and no one can see my cankles.

But we are very much a jeans type of family.

  • I'm wearing a yellow maxi dress, a white cardigan, and white shoes with low heals. I'm also getting my hair put up so I look half decent. I've been looking forward to dressing up for so long so this is the perfect excuse. Can't wait unti Saturday!
  • this was me at my shower.  A simple dress...cost me like $25

I got them at Kolhs. They have the tummy panel and I love them! Sweater dresses & leggings were my 'uniform' this pregnancy!!
