I keep hearing about Robeez shoes for babies and I have a few questions....
1) Are there any cheaper knock-offs that are just as good?
2) If you put these types of shoes on LO, when did you start? At the cruising stage? Only after LO was really walking?
3) Can they wear them outside or are they indoor shoes?
Anything else I should know? I've never put M in any shoes up until now, only socks.
Re: Robeez or knock-offs?
We never had real ones, but had pairs from gymboree (clearance bin) and from target. We used them indoors and out, and up until J was "really" walking. Once she was sure footed, we got her a pair of stride rites.
Oh, and.... I don't know how the "real" ones could be that much better. They're basically just leather slippers! So, it's not like you have to worry about support or anything. As long as they fit his feet well and aren't falling off, you should be good.
You can also find some "real" brand styles on sale online or places like TJMaxx/Filenes/Ross.
This is what I was going to say. C had a few pairs, but mostly because I kept finding cute ones for cheap at Marshall's. I think he outgrew his before he started walking/cruising, but he wore them inside and out (mostly just when we left the house). When he started walking for real, we got him Stride Rites.
I like the real Robeez. We bought a pair for DD when she was about 10 months old and starting to cruise, and they lasted until she was ?14? months and outgrew them. She wore them outside and they held up really well. So well, actually, that DS inherited them and they were his first pair of shoes, too (both indoors and out). I guess for the money we paid for one Robeez, you could get two knock-offs and wouldn't have to even think about hand-me-downs, though.
After they outgrew the baby Robeez, we used the next step up in that brand as well as some Pedipeds (because you can find decent deals online or sales on their sites). I've never been impressed with Stride Rite, even though everyone else swears by them...the soles seemed too stiff for toddlers, I found it hard to get DD's feet into them, the velcro straps never seemed long enough or would fall apart, etc. Once DD turned 2.5, it was Zappos all the way for us.
we use knock-offs from target. T had some Robeez that were hand-me-downs from my B/SIL. A's have all come from target.
we kept T in them long after he began walking. it's better for foot development to have as little between their feet and the floor as possible. the outer soles are tough (and you can toughen them more by scraping them on the concrete) so they won't slip while wearing them. they can be worn inside and outside. i think T was in the 20-22 month range when he got his first "real" shoes.
