Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Please answer my questions about solids

We are getting ready to start on solids, so I have a few questions:-

1. How old was dc when you started?

2. What time of the day did fed them this?

3. ?How many times ?a day?

4. When did you start introducing other solids?

5. If you made your own food, what did you make and how did you do it??

Thanks ladies, its a new big step for us, we are excited and need a little help.?

  • 1.  A week or two before he was 6 months old

    2.  About an hour or two after his first feeding of the morning

    3.  For the first week, once a day.  When I went to the pedi at the end of the week, she told me to feed him solids twice a day

    4.  We never fed him cereal.  So far, he's had mashed bananas, peas, pears, and avocado

    5.  With the exception of the peas, all of the food he's had thus far has been mashed with a fork and had a little water or formula added to it.  We bought a jar of peas to feed DS to see how much he ate--we're traveling next week and will be buying food.  We have a Magic Bullet and will be pureeing/grinding other foods to make him food on a regular basis.

**Also--we let DS play with a baby spoon for quite a while before we started feeding him solids.  (3 months maybe?)  It really helped with his familiarity with the object, so he wasn't learning about the spoon and the food at the same time.

  • My DS actually started cereal in the bottle at 1 month due to reflux.  So I started feeding it to him in a spoon about 1 week before he turned 4 months.  I only did it for about a week, then introduced one veggie at a time.  He has also had bananas.  We aren't on a very strict schedule with it but I have been feeding him cerealw ith a little bananas in it in the morning and a veggie at night.  He loves the cereal with  bananas.  Just do what feels natural for you :)
    1. She was 5 months, tried cereal and she HATED it, tried once a week for the next three weeks and even added applesauce to it, still would not eat it.
    2. I tried it at her last feeding which was around 6pm
    3. Just once a day
    4. I finally gave up on cereal for a while and introduced her to veggies (sweet potatoes) at 5 1/2 months old, she LOVED them, then I went to carrots, squash, green beans, and peas, she loves all of them.
    5. I don't make my own food, but at 6mths I tried cereal again and added peaches to it and now she loves it, I feed her this right now at her last feeding, around 6pm.

    Good luck :)
