Infertility

Anyone else cry with anesthesia?

Ok, no one told me that crying when you wake up from anesthesia is common!?!?!?

They tell you that you will be tired, groggy, confused, forgetful, etc.  But not tearful?!?!

I had my ER yesterday.  I remember waking up and feeling a little teary eyed.  A few mins later the nurse was asking me "are you in pain".  "No".  "Then why are you crying?"  As soon as she brought it to my attention that I was crying, I just started balling.  She asked again, "are you in pain?".  "No".  "If your not in pain, why are you crying?"  "I don't know".  Then she told me "not to worry, crying from anesthesia is common", she just wanted to make sure I wasn't crying because I was in pain.

Anyone else cry when they woke up from anesthesia?  Or am I the only crazy one???

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

Re: Anyone else cry with anesthesia?

  • I didn't wake up crying.  I woke up angry at them for letting me pee my pants...I didn't pee my pants but I was convinced I did.  I think the anesthesia can do funny things to people.  You're definitely not crazy Wink

Edit: Did you have your ER yesterday?

  • Oh yes- I usually wake myself up bawling. For me it is a reaction to Morphine they think... I woke up sobbing after 1) Wisdom Teeth, 2) Knee Surgery #1, 3) Knee Surgery #2, 4) Tonsils, then they realized I may be affected by Morphine or Morphine derivatives, and ever since (Knee surgery 3&4 and D&C), I haven't cried while waking up.

  • Yes, I cry like a baby Crying.  Plus I demand my sunglasses Cool; the lights are WAY too bright.  It has been 19 months and the recovery nurse still remembers me for how I woke up from the anesthesia.

I always watch this when I need laugh and when I think about waking up from anesthesia! :)

  • Me!  I bawled like a baby after my wisdom teeth, because the dr said I couldn't go camping.  My dad had no idea what to do with his snot-sobbing teenage daughter....so he took me camping with my friends.

  • No tears after (before was another story as it was my first surgery for anything!)... I did however think I needed to use the bathroom quite badly and the nurse said, "No honey, you have a catheter in" and I said, "no I have to do the other thing!"  I guess it was from all that pressure from the laporatomy!  Anesthesia is definitely the goofiest thing ever!  The morphine I cried but mostly because it made me soo sick and it took forever to discover that was the cause!

  • It has happened to me. It was my mom that asked if I was in pain or if it was normal. Dr said it was normal.
