Success after IF

Any SAIF ladies who had an SCH...please enter :)

Hi girls, I'm popping in from PAIF. I'm going on my second week of bedrest due to an SCH. I was wondering if any of you ladies had to deal with an SCH during your pregnancy if you could tell me a little about yours..How long did you have it? were you on bedrest, if yes how long? How concerned was your doctor?

Thanks for your help :)

  • i had one from 5 weeks until about 16 weeks. i was spotting red early on and they weren't all that concerned and couldn't see anything on u/s. then one day i had a HUGE gush of blood (this was at about 8 weeks) and when i went to the dr. they could see a small sch still left and said that is what caused the bleeding. i was put on modified activity. basically i could go to and from work and was to be off my feet as much as possible. at 10 weeks they could no longer see the sch so told me i could resume normal activity but kept me on pelvic rest.

  • Gushed majorly at 11 wks, swore I had just miscarried, I had woken to the bleeding, it poured out. We went to the ER.  After a long long wait we got an u/s to confirm the HB was still there.

13 weeks, same thing, gushed poured out again, I had a little cramping that time.  Ended up getting another u/s, baby was still fine, but the SCH was HUGE, and I was also showing full previa.

I was on pelvic rest/ don't lift more than 5lbs blah blah, but with a 1 year old it was impossible to follow those guidlines.

I continued to bleed and slowly spotted up until like 18 wks.  Everything was cleared up by 24 wks.

Good luck.  It is so so so scary, but the short one in my siggy turned out just fine.

  • I did!!  I had a very large one that was evident on my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 5 days.  At that point, due to its size and location, my doc told me that I had a 50% chance of m/c.  I wasn't put on bedrest, but I was told to take it easy.  Everything went okay and then I had bleeding at 9 weeks and feared the worst.  An ultrasound showed that the size had diminished a bit and the bleeding appeared to be from the SCH.  Another ultrasound at 14 weeks showed the SCH was half its size.  By 20 weeks, it was no longer visible on the u/s.  I went on to have a completely normal and wonderful pregnancy and labor.  I know how easy it is to stress about it, but try to take it easy.  GL!!

  • I had one, bleeding started around 7 weeks and it was not noticed at my NT scan at 11 weeks. I was not on bed rest, just pelvic rest and restricted from lifting anything heavier then a gallon of milk. My dr was not overly concerned and said she saw them a lot.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I did with DD.  I wasn't on bed rest but just 'took it easy' until 12 weeks.  My doctor wasn't that concerned, but mine wasn't big compared to others. I did have quite a bit of bleeding though which scared the poop out of me!

It was gone by 12-13 weeks.

  • I didn't but my girlfriend did.  She started bleeding early, I want to say around 8 weeks or so.  They put her on modified bed rest.  She didn't go in to work and just took it easy at home.  I don't think her doctors were overly concerned, and she never seemed to be.  I guess it just resolved on it's own... I don't remember really what ever became of it.

    GL to you!

  • I had one this pregnancy.  Started right away (at first u/s they thought it was an implantation spot, but by the 2nd u/s they knew it was a SCH).  The RE seemed VERY concerned, put me on bedrest.

At 8 weeks I was released to my OB and shrugged saying that bedrest wouldn't help, just don't run or lift heavy objects.  She sent me to the MFM Peri for follow up and care.  He performed weekly and then bi-weekly u/sounds.  At 15 weeks, it was nearly resolved and totally gone by 20 weeks.  The u/s techs and Dr both commented that it was a "really large SCH".  They didn't seem terribly concerned.  At first it was modified bedrest and then I was on "light duty" and after 15 weeks, they said give it 2 weeks symptom free and DH and I could resume sex and no physical limitations.

So, I'm 22+ weeks and it's resolved.  HTH!

    Best wishes!

  • I had one that started at 6w and was finally resolved at 14w.  I was still under the care of my RE when it was found and she put me on strict bedrest..she's uber-conservative.  Mine kept growing for a few weeks.  When I was finally released to my ob at 10w she took me off bedrest (thank God).  I was also on prometrium until it was resolved.

  • I had one with both pregnancies and didn't do bedrest for either, just pelvic rest. My first was a 2nd tri SCH  and never went away, and this one was an earlier 1st tri and we think is just now starting to break up (I have an u/s next week). The only real concern my Dr had was preterm labor. It was not an issue for DD in fact at 39 weeks I was showing no signs of labor at all and ended up having a c section. Partially do to the large SCH and placement of the cord. (They didn't want me going past my due date and didn't want to induce and that was looking more likely with no progression).

I think bleeding has a lot to do with your Dr decision. As soon as I stopped bleeding they felt more at ease (as did I). I never had any bleeding with the first, but it was also sub amniotic and chorionic.

    Good luck!

  • I had an sch with both pregnancies and lost my twins to complications from it. Dd is fine though so I guess the loss is pretty uncommon - but it made me crazy the second time around.
