I remember seeing a picture on your blog (I think) that you have a fireplace hearth covering. Maybe your MIL made it? Is there anyway you could get instructions on how she made it? We currently have a blanket across ours (and have since N was mobile) and I would just like to make/buys something that looks better since it's probably going to be there for a lot longer! (N is clumsy!)

Re: backthepack
Yes - I love that thing! Safe & it makes for great extra seating. My in-laws did make it, but they are the type of people who just look at something & make things without instructions. If I could get it off to take pictures I would, but it's a really tight fit and I can't take it off by myself.
Here's the basics:
1. Built wooden frame to snugly fit the hearth. Sort of like an "L" shape over the top & front of the hearth and add ends.
2. Adhere thick foam to the top (I think they used spray adhesive).
3. Wrap in batting and staple to frame.
4. Cover with fabric and staple to frame (like you would recover a dining room chair).
I hope that helps some - sorry I don't have any more details than that.
