caffeine?

i read that less than 1% of caffeine gets into breast milk, but since baby weighs about 4% of my weight, that's a relatively significant amount.

has anyone noticed a correlation between fussy baby and your own caffeine intake?

Re: caffeine?

  • When I drink just one soda, no. The night I was super thirsty and tired and craving soda and drank 3, yes. He wouldn't go to sleep and was SUPER crabby.

  • Nope, not with caffeine. My kids both had reactions to other random stuff though. DD it was curry and blackening spices (like blackened fish).  DS was soda and asparagus.

  • I drink 2-3 cups of coffee in the mornings, and DS loves to sleep almost all day.  Maybe it's a delayed reaction though, because late in the evening he is wide awake for hours.

  • No.

But I usually only have 1 caffeinated beverage a day.

  • Nope, never.

Don't want to steal the post but its not uncommon for babies in general to be fussy for a few hours in the evenings, especially that little.  Kellymom.com has info about it.

As for OP, I limit myself to about one soda a week and I notice no affect on DD.

I limit myself to one caffeinated coffee a day and haven't noticed anything.  I also had one caffeinated coffee a day while pregnant.

One afternoon I did realize after the fact that my afternoon coffee treat was probably caffeinated.  I felt so alert that afternoon (DS was probably about 9 weeks) and then had trouble falling asleep that night.  Didn't seem to affect DS at all, though.

  • I drink quite a bit of caffeine and it never has bothered my DD.
