NBR:: going rate for dog sitting?

What would you pay a 12 year old who lives across the street to come over 3 times per day to let the dog out (fenced yard) and refill water/food bowl?

Re: NBR:: going rate for dog sitting?

  • for how many days?  for some reason, this matters to me.  like if it was for a week, I'd offer him/her $50 total.  if it was for a few days, then maybe $10/day?  if it was everyday, ongoing, then I'd do something much less than that (because $300/month is a lot).

This exactly!  We pay the kid across the street 10 a day, unless its five days or more - then we add a "tip" to the total, because three dogs are a pain in the rear without their parents for a while!

  • I pay a 12 year old $2/day to come once a day to feed/put out fresh water for our cat (no litter box duty).  If she/he is coming 3 times a day, I think $10/day is reasonable.

When we've looked into professional sitters for our dog, the going rate has been around $15 per visit - so $35/day if they had to come 3 times.
