for how many days? for some reason, this matters to me. like if it was for a week, I'd offer him/her $50 total. if it was for a few days, then maybe $10/day? if it was everyday, ongoing, then I'd do something much less than that (because $300/month is a lot).

This exactly! We pay the kid across the street 10 a day, unless its five days or more - then we add a "tip" to the total, because three dogs are a pain in the rear without their parents for a while!
I pay a 12 year old $2/day to come once a day to feed/put out fresh water for our cat (no litter box duty). If she/he is coming 3 times a day, I think $10/day is reasonable.
When we've looked into professional sitters for our dog, the going rate has been around $15 per visit - so $35/day if they had to come 3 times.
