enfamil gentlelease vs. similac sensitive??

I have recently given up BF. My daughter is on enfamil newborn right now and seems to be very crampy/gassy and fussy the past few days. She literally turns bright red trying to strain to push out a bowel movement. It is the saddest thing :( Any suggestions on formulas to try?? Enfamil gentlelease and Similac Sensitive were both recommended to me by friends. My pedi seems to think they are all "gimmicks" and won't make a difference. Any suggestions or feedback would be helpful! TIA

  • I don't really have any advice but thought I'd share my experience. My DS had been so fussy ALL the time. If he wasn't eating or sleeping, he was crying. Never was just content, even for a few minutes. He was on enfamil  newborn. We tried similac sensitive (we had a sample size) and goodstart gentle plus (my mom bought that on say and a friend swore by it). Well neither one did a bit of good. Then we decided, heck we'll just try soy. It has been a godsend except now LO is so constipated : ( We are trying to give him prune juice and sugar water to help but no such luck. Don't want to switch back, but don't want a baby who can't poop! Good luck with whatever you decide.

  • I also intended to bf with no luck & purchased enfamil gentle ease. The 1st few days she was fine with it then ended up constipated and had a fussy tummy which bothered her to the point that she would scream @ night like clockwork for a couple of nights in a row. My cousin who is an RN recommeded I give her 1oz prune juice & 4 oz warm water to loosen her stools and clear her system. She also suggested switching to good start soy which helped alot with her bowel movements however she still got tummy aches & gas around the same time each night. She is now on similac soy & I give her the prune juice warm water mix early each day around 6pm (or earlier) to keep her from being fussy late in the evenings. We have been constipation and scream free for a while now since starting this routine. I also make sure to give her a long relaxing lower back rub with oil after her bath & during tummy time each night before bed then turn her over and massage her lower belly then bend her knees & legs towards her tummy to release gases. This helps tremendously in us both having a good night sleep.

  • DS was on enfamil newborn for the first 3 weeks. His poops always looked wrong to me and he was starting to get extremely gassy (and it seemed to hurt him) and was pooping 8 times a day most days. After doing some internet research I decided he might have a sensitivity to milk proteins/lactose. We tried similac sensitive (I had a sample on hand) since it is lactose free and within a week he was a happy baby with much less gas,  and one normal looking bowel movement a day.
