12-24 month toys?

Even in the Great Gift Aftermath of their first birthday, Will and Dash could use some more new toys - they've outgrown most of the ones they have and could use some that are a bit more interesting/challenging/fun for their age.

For those with older LOs, what are the favorites in your home? Bonus points for links!

P.S. I know a lot of us have LOs that love board books - they're Will and Dash's favorites - but we have a ton of those and I'm specifically interested in actual toys...just thought I'd mention it since books regularly come up as #1 on many of our "what does your LO play with?" lists. Stick out tongue

personally DS loves anything with wheels.  These are a huge hit.  There are different sets - I think we have all 14 of them now. There is a ramp system that the grandparents recently got for him too.  It was recalled awhile ago, but it's fixed now.  This tractor we got after he loved this farm we got him for Christmas. The rock and roll truck is a fun one b/c he loves the music (and we dont' hate it).

He loves to play with balls (and not just his own, haha).  The Oball, any kind of little plush/ plastic ball he's fond of.  We recently found one that's kind of like a snow globe with glitter inside (found it on the checkout aisle at walmart, sorry, no linkie!), that he's been fascinated with.  He's also starting to really love his stuffed animals and hug them and carry them around.

Believe it or not, he still plays with his Leapster table

he loves this ball popper - although warning - there's no volume setting and it's loud and obnoxious (gotta thank my brother for that one)

This fisher price house has a lot of different things going on and he plays with it daily.  He also loves anything that looks like a phone or remote - we have a few hand me downs, including my old real cell phone that we took the battery out of and taped the back he he couldn't pull it off.

ok i'll stop :) Hope you find some things that they like!

we don't have a lot of toys but i think these are what she is playing w/most right now (besides books!)

    - rockabye rocker (from zulily)

    - plastic easter eggs (i put them in an old egg carton for play/storage) - she loves these right now and is constantly asking me to open/close them

    - melissa & doug crayons for drawing (they are plastic so less likely to break than crayolas...still non toxic and washable)

    - stuffed animals - when she is in the mood to play w/them, she loves to walk around holding them and squeezing them and saying "hug" in Vietnamese as she does so :) she prefers the more plush/soft ones

    - melissa & doug sorting clock - she likes to play the "game" where i put the blocks back in their respective holes and she pulls them back out LOL  she is very particular about it though and the #s all have to be right side up

    - the melissa & doug stacking/nesting cubes that you and i were talking about previously. now that she knows how to stack she likes to play w/those.  even though they can be stacked on their sides she always turns them to where the star is on top (where it should be)

    - flash cards from the dollar store that have letters and corresponding pictures on them (i.e. the letter A with a picture of an apple on the card)

    - she isn't pretend playing yet but she still loves to open/shut doors, twist knobs, and push buttons on her play kitchen

Kaya has recently become afraid of her stuffed animals.  She'll kiss them if I tell her to but otherwise she kinda walks away from them or waves her hands and shakes her head to say "no".

I just bought her this.  It has great reviews and so far, she really likes it.  Some of the letters are hard to understand but I just sing along with it so she knows what the sound is supposed to be.

She also loves her corn popper. She cracks up when I run around her with it.  The dog doesn't like it too much, though.  Haha.

A got a Leap Frog train for his birthday and he plays with it a lot-- pushing, pulling, opening/shutting the seat. Sometimes I push him while he sits on it too. He isn't into the alphabet or letter songs yet, though. https://tinyurl.com/5seyuyr

He also got these cars that can be pulled back and let go to race across the floor. They're soft and super cute and he laughs at them every time. https://tinyurl.com/4xu26yv

He's starting to get the hang of chunky puzzles like this, but still sometimes confuses them with our dog's biscuits and tries to feed them to her instead: https://tinyurl.com/3pez7ng

And he likes to walk this clicking penguin, sort of like a ball popper: https://tinyurl.com/4xufsdg

He also really digs the Leap Frog Potsy set. He likes to throw the veggies in and stir. It's pretty funny to listen to the silly, witty veggie songs, too: https://tinyurl.com/3j3ay6w

Balls or anything involved in water play are still very much enjoyed. And he still really loves his stacking cups (always new ways to play with them) and his big Tonka outdoor dump truck that can be pushed around and loaded/unloaded with stuff: https://tinyurl.com/3rzjmrm

I have some blocks and toddler legos that I can't wait to try, but he still puts EVERYTHING in his mouth.

This looks cute - I'm going to put this on his wish list  (where grandparents look when they want to get him something).

things getting the most play time lately - child size chairs (his PBK one and also a child size rocking chair) - these are VERY popular at his daycare too - they recently put out a request for more on the wish list.  He use to just climb, but now he's sitting down to look at books more.

shape sorters - he has a peek a block one but has recently moved on to my old tupperware one (the red and blue one with yellow blocks).  he can get some of them but gets confused by oval vs. circle and the like.  but he's almost here and keeps trying.

chunky puzzles.  if anything he likes taking all the pieces out and then hands them to be to put back.  so that is progress (he use to just dump them all out and throw them)

baby doll - this is an influance from daycare.  the kids there love to put the babies to bed and cover them up, so he brings me his baby doll and blanket and I have to wrap it up.  He will hold it for a while (while rocking or something) so I can see he is starting to understand pretend play.

child size pots/pans/bowls/play utensils, child size broom.  these are upstairs toys and keep him entertained while I cook and clean up.  He likes to mimic.

he loves anything that looks like a remote or cell phone too.  I gave him an old camera and was showing him how to hold it up to his eye (which I then realized he has probably never seen thanks to us always using a P&S digital, haha).

he LOVES to play with the vintage pull toys.  I know they don't make pull toys anymore that have strings long enough to pull, but if the child is supervised it shouldn't be a big deal.  He will walk along pulling and then turn around and crack up like he's amazed it's still there.  Most of them play a little song or make a noise.

Some of the toys that we actually have that Brooke still plays with are:

    Step2 Play Kitchen
This slide (but it is inside of our house-- it's pretty teeny tiny)
big plastic blocks, like legos but much bigger
    A basketball thing like this
This elmo toy is driving me nuts
I found this zebra toy at Goodwill for $5 and she loves it

We don't have one, but we looked at getting her a
    water table (for outside)
a little house (instead of the kitchen)

speaking of flash cards - we have a few different types but I LOVE the ones like these:

    https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dtoys-and-games&field-keywords=ring+flash+cards&x=0&y=0

we have the animal abc's and I'm thinking of ordering a few more.  they are really thick - like a board book and come on a ring.  So far LO hasn't tried to pry them apart so the plastic ring is still working (some of the negative reviews had an issue with this) but if they did I would either duct tape the clasp or replace it with some metal ones I have laying around.

LO really likes them.  We go through the letters and phonics of each letter and he has started to be able to name a few of the items.  I like that it's something I can leave out for him to go through like a book or bring to me when interested.

This reminds me of something I picked up at the thrift store that A actually loves -- plastic alphabet cards on a ring made by Leap Frog. We keep it in the card and he flips through them or waves them around, and he even pays attention when I show him the pictures, letters and name the sounds. He engages with it longer than he would a board book. Thought it would be boring, but I guess not!
