Balance bike for tall 3yo? (40in)

I am thinking I'd like to get a balance bike for DS's 3rd birthday, in June.  He is very big and tall (97th percentile for height and weight, he wears 4T/5T clothes).  I want to make sure the balance bike fits him!  The catch is, I'd like my 1yr old DD to be able to use it in a few years too.

Is the Strider pre-bike the best one?  Should I get that and go with the extra long seat extender?

  • I would probably get the extender.  My 3yo is small still wearing 2t, and we had to raise his seat recently.  I think he is 36 inches tall.  He got it when he was 2, and it fit really well.  SO if you get the extension, it should work for both.

  • My son is the same size/age as yours! He goes through clothes ridiculously fast. Anyway- if you decide to get a bike w/ training wheels- get the 16" wheels. We were going to go for the smaller size, but knew he would just grow so fast! I know you asked about a balance bike, but just some food for thought!
  • We had my Dad get the bigger of the two sizes of Disney bikes with training wheels for my DDs 3rd birthday. No idea what a balance bike is, but she loves her big girl bike with training wheels. She is 40 inches & 40lbs now at 3.5.

  • My dd is 38 inches tall and has a strider. She and her sister can use it with no issues. We don't have an extender. I didn't even know they made them. It's a great bike. I think you would be happy with it.
