Babies on the Brain

So my friend/co-worker is on maternity leave

and her sub is awful! Horrible.

I want to tell her about it, but do not want to cause her anxiety. She will either freak out or not care at all.

  • Dont tell her just remember she is just a temp.

  • I wouldn't say anything either.  Is there any advice you can give the sub to make her/him better?

  • I do not actually work directly with the sub. She co-teaches 2 sections each day with other teachers. That is how I have heard that she is bad - no class room control, completely unprepared, and cannot read aloud without stumbling over words.

There is nothing I can do (or my friend) about this situation. It is what it is  - only 5 weeks left!

  • Sorry, I disagree with pp. A sub can be changed. Temp or no temp, teachers are passionate about their classrooms and who is running them. I am not even going on leave until the start of next year and I'm already way anxious about leaving my students behind. If my sub wasn't getting the job done, I would want to know ASAP.

This is why I do not want to say anything to my friend  - I don't want her to feel anxious about leaving her kiddos.

And in our situation - they (admin) will not change the sub unless she does something horrible.

  • i dont know any admin that would want to leave a poor sub in a room for 5 weeks. you would be surprised. when i went home for my papas funeral, i had an awful sub. the teacher next door tipped off admin who visited by the end of the day, and she was asked not to return tto our school. subs have no contract and can be removed. if you really think the sub is that bad, pleaseplease tell someone.
