When did you and DH leave baby for the first time? DH and I have an invitation to spend the weekend away (1 night, possibly 2) with some friends in a month. If we go, J would stay with my parents or with DH's parents (they may even stay here at our house so he could sleep is his own bed) so he would be in good hands. I don't BF either, so that's not an issue. I guess I'm just feeling like 5 months is so young to leave him overnight!
Re: 1st trip away from baby?
2 months with G. (wasn't BFing) I left him fr 12 days when he was 8 months old. Much harder on ME than him.
haven't yet with Winnie.

First full day/night away (I work nights so when I went back to work at 3 months I was away at night regularly) was a little shy of 5 months. SO was the best man in his best friend's wedding. We decided to make a night away for us since it was going to be such a late night and not something we could leave early from since SO was in the wedding party. He stayed with my mom at her house (staying with us isn't an option since she has a dog she needed to take care ot). I was BFing at the time, so I had to find times/places to go pump. SUCH a pain. Totally worth it for us to get a full night away from the baby to be able to sleep in for an hour or two.
I was super sad when I first left him, but being able to call and check up on him, and being busy at the wedding totally took my mind off it. I didn't go away for more than that until a few weeks ago when I had 3 days away for a work training, and I was totally fine having the time to myself by then
With Andrew he was 7 months and honestly I was super duper ready. He was a craptastic sleeper and fairly high needs and more than anything in the world I was rediculously excited to be away and be able to sleep all night and past 6am.
It totally helped matters that we have an annual NASCAR trip that is super important to my dad and it's roughly 45 minutes from my dad's house. It was easy for us to take him camping with us the first 3 nights and then take him back to hang out with Grandma the night before the big race and for raceday.
A super cute tidbit........we were also supposed to stay Sunday night camping and DH missed him so much that he got really sad and wanted to take off at like 11pm so he would be able to see him first thing in the morning.
Ditto, except DD had just turned 2. In hindsight, I would have left her much, much earlier - I don't think 5 months is too early at all. They really don't have a clue for the most part, and you will realize it's not the huge deal it feels like it is and will be more inclined to go on more overnight trips in the future (which is good).
