When to move baby to own room? And where do they sleep for naps?

Hi all!

Our little guy is two months as of last Friday, and is a great night sleeper (working on naps).  He currently sleeps in the PnP in our room, and I let him nap in either his bouncy chair or swing during the day (or car seat if on the go).

Wondering when you all moved/plan to move your little one's to their own room (crib) and where they sleep for naps.  Thinking I need to start moving him to his crib for naps to avoid sleep issues later, wdyt?

 Thanks!!!

  • I think it's a personal decision as to when you move LO out of your room. We did it around 2 months and it was fine. We slept her in the PnP for about 10 days without the basinet attachment to get her used to being in the "open".  Up til then she was in the bassinet & it was comfy & very snug. Then we just did it, and have had no problems.  She likes it! But for naps, I still nap her in the swing. She still doesn't really have a napping "schedule" or pattern. So when I see she is getting tired, I just put her in the swing. Once she has more of a pattern of sleeping for a certain amount of time consistently I plan to nap her in her crib. But til then, the swing is just fine for us!

  • Because DH had a sister pass from sids at 3 months, we have the angel care monitor and plan on moving him a bit later (6 months minimum). We are working on night sleeping. He did go 6 hours last night! For naps he usually sleeps in his swing downstairs.

  • My DD is STTN, but I don't want to move her to her own room yet bc our warm weather hasn't stabilized yet and her room gets pretty cold at night.  She sleeps in her crib for one nap a day usually and then takes naps in her swing as well.

  • DD won't go to her own room until 6 months at the earliest.

  • Caleb has been sleeping in his crib since 4 weeks.  He was really noisy, so we decided to try it one night and he slept a lot better in his crib then in his pnp.

  • I was just thinking about this earlier today. Originally my plan was to move DD into her crib by 3 months, but I've now developed a SIDS phobia and I'm constantly waking up in the middle of the night to check on her breathing, so I'm thinking maybe by 5 months. Right now she sleeps in the bassinet of our PNP in the bedroom.
  • I'm still not sure when we're going to move him. Gma is trying to get him ready for the crib by having him take naps in there (at her house). Right now he sleeps in the RnP

  • Our LO has slept in her own room since our first night home...granted she was already two weeks old because she had a little stay in the NICU.  The door to her room is right across the hall from our room so we can hear her easily.  She slept in a bassinet in her room for a few nights and was sleeping through the night just fine so I was worried to move her.  We moved her to her crib though and she still sleeps just fine.  She also naps in her crib for most of her daytime naps.

  • We moved him two weeks ago. DH was ready to have our room back and while I was really sad to see DS make his "big boy" move, I was also ready to have our room back.

Before we did the move we would put him down for naps in there, though. That way he would be somewhat used to it.
