Success after IF

Dr. Sassy says...

Well, I met with Dr. Sassy this morning. He had no choice. lol.

In short, we're plowing ahead with a FET. He was pleased as punch at the amazing quality and QUANTITY of embryos we have. (5 left)  He actually didn't seem surprised these two didn't stick (he even commented how my cheeks were rosie at transfer) and flat-out said "I don't 'zink zat we need to over-think zis, they just didn't steeeck. But I believe zat zee next FET will."  (he's french and everything he says is funnier in that accent, lol)

He loves to cite studies and make diagrams and spew off all kinds of stats, but basically he thinks that some women just can't get pregnant from a fresh cycle. I agree. I will never transfer fresh again.

I got a long explanation on why PGD/CGH is unnecessary b/c we have great quality eggs.  (he actually just did a study himself and in a nutshell, (25) 5day embies had CGH and 22 were normal. That's huge.)  He says "If zay look like zee duck, and zay quack like zee duck, zay are ducks. Oui?"   That's not to say every embryo of ours has been perfect, but the majority of them statistically are.

I pitched the idea of a "natural FET" to avoid pissing my body off with more meds. He's not nuts about that idea, citing 1) I don't ovulate well on my own 2) It may take longer to see that happen, 3) monitoring for it will be a PITA, and his biggie... 4) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. He is pretty insistant on doing JUST what we did last FET. It "worked" in the sense I stayed pregnant for a while.
I'll buy what he's selling. Makes sense to me.

He actually dissed the idea of a hCG booster, saying he likes to plow me with extra p4 at the right moment. (oral, vag and PIO)  Meh. whatevs. I'll get another IVIG infusion in a few days, stay on the steroids, and just do a lil' bit of BCP & lupron prior, to gain control of things.

I have an appt tomorrow with my GP to address potential thyroid issues, and while I'm at it, I'm having them look closer at the supposed "granulomas" seen on a recent lung xray. (irrelevent to this ART crap, I'm sure. But best check things out.)

I'll get my FET schedule in the next couple days, and we talked at length about whether to transfer 2 or 3. At the moment, I'm game for just two great ones.  If you have any opinions on that, I'd love a second opinion. He's VERY (VERY!!) conservative with what he's willing to transfer, and he's willing to let me transfer 3. Twins? Yes please. Plump full term ones. Trips? OMGNOTHANKYOU. I'm a little torn on what to do with this. I just want a healthy baby, but we really really REALLY want to be done growing our family. (not sure having 2 kids total would shut us up. I've always had in my head I want 3-4. Just not at once. lol) BUT I told him of our plans to keep going with the warranty, and if at the end I'm left standing with just a couple left, they're going in a GC. He was very supportive of that idea, should it come to that.

thanks again for all the advice and support yesterday. You are one kickarse group of women!

  • So glad Dr. Sassy is on board and you feel good about the plan.

Despite all my opinions yesterday, it hard to pass up 5 excellent frozen embies...I don't blame you for going right into this FET.

And I'd transfer 2. Hopefully 2 will thaw perfectly, and IF it doesn't work, you still got 3 excellent frozens to think about transfering the next time.

    Big Smile

  • Shitty situation but awesome update!

I'm all about FETs for you.  Continuing IVIG and steroids is wonderful.  And yeah, 2 embies, I would think -- just tell him to find the 2 stickiest ones, right? :)

And, if it can't happen with all of that, a GC would be heaven sent.

Seems everyone is on the same page?

  • I have a good feeling about this plan.  What can you do for the rosie cheek thing next time?  I don't get it... your body was too hot at that time for them to get cozy in there?  Could acupuncture help you to tonify the "excess heat"?

    We're all rooting for you!!!!

  • Sounds like a very good plan, and, most importantly, a perfect plan for you! Good luck!!
  • I'm still gonna stand by my thoughts.  Do one with all the stops and do one where you "just don't care".  Clean that body out and do it for laughs and giggles.  I am starting to warm up to the idea of your last fresh cycle going into someone else's body.  I am really liking that idea.

I'm so happy that you are so happy with your doc and all of his plans with you.  That makes all the difference in the world.

I'll be looking for more updates from you in the near future.

  • Glad you have a plan you are comfortable with. Ok, now.... put the laptop next to your belly (or stand next to the monitor). Your womb and I need to have a little chat.

Womb... stop giving T a hard time. She's had enough of your lip (het, het). Get knocked up already and bake'em babies good!! Clear? Ok. Carry on!

  • Sounds like you have a great plan in place.

My RE is pretty conservative and her goal is one healthy baby.  I was surprised when she suggested we transfer 3 for FET #2.  I was not really prepared to carry triplets but I didn't have much faith we could get any to stick, let alone all three.  I'm really glad we went with her advice as I lost one at 10 weeks and I'm not sure DS would be here if we had only transferred two.  Good luck with whatever you decide.  I really hope this is it for you!!

  • Glad to hear you have a plan and that the Dr seems optimistic. I honestly don't think my body responded well to fresh cycles either. I think all the hormones and crap really screw with your body. Not to mention I got OHSS after both cycles. I will never do a a transfer after a fresh cycle again.

I hope this works for you. I am really excited about the number and quality of your embryos! I feel good about the ;)

  • Sounds like a good plan!

I hear ya on the fresh cycle/FET thing. I've always felt I got pg w/the FET because my body wasn't all jacked up on hormones and whatnot.

  • Dude. Friggin' roller coaster!

Anyway, that plan sounds great to me. Totally rooting for you!!!!

  • ugh.. omf'ing god. I can't believe you are going through this again.

anyhoooo. I think you're plan is great. I know how hard it is to be caught in the 'do I transfer two or three' debate. And of course I know how hard and expensive it is to raise triplets. I would never do it again if that tells you anything! But my stock advice for sure is don't transfer more than you want to carry and raise. I would also run out your warranty program, but after that, I would do a GC. Good luck T.. will cross everything for you!

  • I like Dr. Sassy more and more. I think he has a great plan for you! It is a tough call rather to transfer 2 or 3. We had the same delima a few days ago, and we elected to transfer 2. With your history, I'd almost consider doing 3. For us, if this cycle doesn't work, we'll transfer 3 next time.
