Has anyone ever done acupuncture as an alternative treatment to any medical problems? My morning sickness is just getting out of control, even with the pump, and I am really struggling to make it through each day. My midwives said that they have had quite a few patients and nurses in their practice get acupuncture done at the TriHealth Pavillion in Blue Ash and they said they have seen amazing results as far as morning sickness goes.
My concern is 1. does it hurt at all? I usually can handle pain really well but lately every single little thing makes me so nauseous I am worried that just having to lay there for that long would make me sick. Any idea of what I could expect if I do try this? At this point I am willing to give anything a shot...
Re: acupuncture
My RE (Dr. Chin) does acupuncture. He does his HSG's at my work and he's done it on some of my coworkers for various things...back pain, stress etc. and they've all said that's it helped them a lot, so I think it can definitely be successful. They've all said it doesn't hurt...one of my coworkers even walked around with the needles in her ears all day.
Also when I was pregnant he told me about an acupressure point to use for nausea as well. Put your palm of either hand face up, put your other thumb at the base of your wrist. Run your thumb down your arm and it will settle into a groove, press down with your thumb and your index finger on the opposite side of your wrist for about a minute. Hopefully that makes sense!
I may have to try Tri-Health. I like my current doctor but I don't love his staff. And I had a hard time finding someone to treat me during my pregnancy last time around.
I second Dr Chin!!! I used him for IF accupuncture. He is AMAZING!!!
It doesn't really "hurt". I am a baby when it comes to needles, but once I would relax it didn't hurd, just a slight stick. He is the expert when it comes to Accupunture & any type of women's health. He is a bit expensive, but definately worth every bit of it!
He currently is doing it out of his office in Fairfield on M,W, F evenings and every other Saturday. Give him a call and set up an appointment.
And definately try the accupressure point that was mentioned. I use this occasionally and it really works.
Thanks for the input everyone-- I think I am going to give it a shot! I have a really high pain tolerance and its not that I am scared of the pain but more worried that the pain will temporarily increase my nausea and I dont think I can handle an increase in vomiting/nausea.
Thanks for the idea about bringing some of my meditation music/labor music-- my body is pretty trained to relax to that music after prepping so much for labor that I am sure it would help! I'll let you all know how it goes!
