This week has been good. I think the potty thing has clicked and we are making great progress. DD wears big girl undies during the day, and we have had 3 days without accidents. Yay!
So questions for the pros:
1. Tinkle shoes: She had an accent at daycare last week. She almost made it to the potty in time. She peed big, and it completely soaked her leather shoes. What on earth do I do about that? I honestly don't remember that ever happening with DS. Since they are dry, do I just pretend I have no idea that they took a pee bath? They can't be washed. Scrap them? That could get costly.
2. How long should we wait to start night training? She is mostly dry at night, and it would make for an interesting potty scramble in the mornings. I am not sure we want to do that until she is going for a week without a day accident, but now I am thinking about the logistics of night training.
3. How do you protect sheets and mattress on DC's bed? What should I stock up on and have several on hand? mattress covers? Sheets? Sheet protectors? How many do you have?
Here is a gem of a potty training tip for those who are embarking on the potty training adventure. DD's teacher told me to try it, and it is the best thing ever... When you have to put a pull up on DC, always put a pair of undies over the pull up. I rolled my eyes, but we tried it to keep the daycare happy. Works like a stinking charm. She will pee in a pull up all day long, but if she knows her panties are on over it, she will go potty, or scream like crazy if she pees in the pull up even one time. Try it. It works! Must be a psychological thing for them. Once we figured that out, and had a few freak outs, we went over to just panties full time.
Re: Tinkle shoes? More potty training questions
I don't know that you can save the leather shoes but if she can wear Crocs for a while that would save you some hassle since they're so easy to clean!
We started PT much later, around 3, and he wore night diapers for a LONG time after being full day trained (I honestly don't remember but it was several months).
A mattress pad should suffice for protecting the bed. You may want to use some cheap pillow for a while. Sometimes my son would crawl up onto his pillow and if he had an accident I just pitched the pillow.
I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say I'm going to try to remember that underwear-over-the-pull-up trick! Thanks for sharing
The shoe thing makes me want to hurl. We just retired the pair, and are done with it. They were getting snug anyway. But we can't keep doing that.
