Breastfeeding

Done pumping. :(

I think I've decided that I'm done pumping. There's been too many obstacles.. and I'm getting MAYBE an ounce each time I pump. I don't have time to power pump because my lo has been very needy lately and wants to be held all the time. I'm so upset about this. I really wanted to do this for an entire year, but I guess my body decided against that. It's not a good feeling when you want to do something but you have no control over the outcome. Sad I've been near tears all day.

But, I do have a question. I've heard of certain things to do to dry up your milk.. but I haven't had that "urge" to relieve my breasts for weeks. They never feel full or hard...so I'm wondering if I should just stop pumping and let them dry up on their own? Any advice would be good.

Re: Done pumping. :(

  • I am sorry that you are feeling this way.  Were you only pumping or nursing also?  I know that my LO does not let me pump around her and I didn't really do much once we got back to nursing unless she was sleeping or when I went back to work.  Sorry if you have talked about this recently, I don't come on this board as much as I do other boards.

With your question to drying up, one of my friends decided she was done between exclusively pumping and three cases of thrush when her son was about 6 weeks.  She just let her body stop on its own.  She pumped to relieve the uncomfortable feeling but that was it and finally that stopped.

I am sure that it is not easy, but remember that a happy mommy makes a happy baby.  If it was putting strain on things this is probably the better choice.
