Trouble TTC

Back From ER and...

So freaking disappointed. 6 eggs.

I knew something was messed up with this cycle. I started with 22 antral follicles. 12 grew to measurable. 6 eggs.

My e2 at trigger was only 1111. And they said some of the follicles were cysts. I think they got too big too fast because I didn't have any cysts at baseline. Plus I only stimmed for 7 days. I feel like if they'd lowered my dose and gone slower we could've gotten more to grow and the big ones would slow. I was on ganirelix from my first monitoring appointment after 3 days of stims. They didn't tell me if the eggs were mature, but said they'll call me tomorrow and let me know if any fertilized. The doctor said I'm way too down, and 6 is a good number. I don't understand how I could have an fsh of 4 with 22 antral follicles and get 6 eggs.

Sorry to rant, but I just expected more. 8 would've been OK. 6 just seems like it's not going to work. Ugh. Sorry to be a downer guys. I just want to know if the protocol was wrong, or if I'm broken. Right now I feel broken.

Re: Back From ER and...

  • Hang in there! I know that's a lot to go through, but it could be worse. That's one of the worst aspects always questioning and wondering.

I hate how things always seemed rushed in medicine in all the wrong ways. If you went through this again could you ask about a lower dose and going slower?

Crossing my fingers for good luck and a great phone call for you tomorrow. Keep us posted!

  • I wanted to let you know that I had my ER last Wednesday and I was very down b/c we only 6 eggs as well. I was thinking that they would of retreiuved at least double that. So the next day we got the call that 5 were mature and 3 fertilized, I was pretty dissappointed and that it was most likely going to be a 3DT. Well on Saturday I got a call that 4 were now fertilized and they were looking great. So we had our ET yesterday and we had 2 "big beautiful blasts" as my RE called them, transferred. I too would of loved more so we could freeze and such but I just had to let go and focus on what we had at that moment and it looked good. I am going to be thinking about your embryos and praying for growth. As everyone told me and I will pass to you. It only takes 1!!!!!

    Stay strong.

Thanks for posting this! It's hard today because I keep thinking "what if none fertilize?" or what if the quality is bad. I've always said if I get 3-4 good ones I'll be happy, I'm just playing the waiting game again. It's so incredibly nerve-wracking. My husband is still really confident, and the doctor said it was good. He said he'd be worried if I had 1 or 2, but 6 is plenty to work with to get 1 or 2 good ones, so I guess we'll see. I'm feeling better now knowing that if we do need to do a second one, we'll be able to adjust. I'd never done a medicated cycle before this so the RE really was starting from scratch. And also that I don't need 15 eggs and 10 frozen. I just need 1 perfect one that sticks, and I could definitely still have that, so I'm trying to be positive :) Please keep me posted and let me know how things go for you. I've got my fingers crossed :)
