Insurance Vent

So DH submitted the paperwork to his jobs HR dept to add DD 13 days after she was born. When I went to DD 1 mth I was told she wasn't covered. It was exactly 31 days after her birth. I called the ins co and they told me we have the application, no problem I will have them add her. I'm looking through the mail just now and see a letter saying she's not covered. I called ins co again today and the women tells me she will call me back to let me know if they will add her. WTH!!!! Now I'm sitting here freaking out! I should have called before the 30 days but it was not on my mind and I should have followed up sooner.

I totally feel your pain! We are going through the same crap! We keep getting bills for various medical things for DS saying he isn't covered but when we call HR and check online it says that he is covered. WTH?! I took DS to his 6 week appt last week and he still wasn't showing up on our insurance! grrr!

  • I'm in a similar situation...I was waiting for ds's ss card so I could put it on the application and it was still before 30 days - spoke to hr and they said I had 60 days anyway.  My work was on spring break last week and I found out from my insurance co that I only had 30 days! Today is day 31 and the first day that work is open.  I am waiting for a call back. Oh and the hr lady is on vacation for another week. I am so upset over this.

  • It takes the company several weeks for a person to be fully added to the plan and properly attached. Everyone will likely get EOBs stating their LO isn't covered. It is the medical office's job to resubmit these claims. Generally the claims are submitted on the date of service but that doesn't mean the insurance has LO properly added yet.

I hope it all works out quickly though. When I was still working nothing made me more angry than dealing with insurance companies.

  • I'm dealing with the same stuff. DD is well past 60 days at this point (which we were told we had). I have followed up with HR at least 5 times and they say everything is good to go, but the insurance company says they haven't gotten any of the paperwork to add her. It's so frustrating. Good luck to us all with the stupid insurance companies!

  • I've learned when Dh's HR that at the end I always say "can you please send me a confirmation of these changes?" Otherwise they have missed things like this

  • My Hr recently added a health advocate plan....I have used them more than once.

    Good Luck!

  • I'm dealing with a similar situation, except with me instead of DD. During my pregnancy, I was double covered on insurance through my work and through DH's work. I'm required to keep mine and never go to the doctor normally, so we decided it was cheaper to drop me off of DH's plan. He got the paperwork from HR to drop me and to add DD and it had one line on it to put the effective date so he just put DD's birth date since that's the day she would need to start coverage. The next day he realized that I would need to be dropped on a later date since I was still in the hospital after the day that she was born, so he talked to HR about it and they were supposed to fix it. Now we're dealing with HR, our insurance company, and the hospital (and medical supply place that I got my pump from) because the insurance has been denying claims for me. Ugh, what a mess!!
