So frustrating! (PT vent)

We are still struggling with pooping on the potty.  Yesterday and today, Liam spent the entire day whining and crying b/c he needs to poop.  He tells me all day "I need to poop on the potty!"  We run to the potty, he gets frustrated after about 30 seconds and nothing happens.  We've done this at least 50 times.  I've tried everything.  Sitting with him, holding his hand, encouraging him, being quiet so I'm not putting pressure on him, reading to him while he sits on the potty, even bringing the potty in front of the TV so he can watch Dora while he tried.  Still no luck.

Yesterday he finally pooped in his pants.  Today, he struggled with it all day and never went.  I'm afraid it's going to make it hard for him at school tomorrow b/c he's going to wake up still miserable!

He's been SO whiny and annoying and just horrible these last few days, I am ready to pull my hair out!  Please tell me it gets better soon and he will start pooping on the potty. Gah!  Sorry for the long vent.

Things you never even imagine always end up becoming the most frustrating parts of parenting LOL!

ETA: He has already been up twice since I put him to bed crying that he needs to poop, but he just won't go.  Ahhhh.  I think it's going to be a long night, and I made the mistake of drinking wine after I put him to bed.  Wine + no sleep = very unhappy mommy!  I actually suggested to him just now that he just poop in his diaper LOL.  He said no.

Re: So frustrating! (PT vent)

  • We struggled with Jack the 1st week trying to get him to go on the Potty and he went easily the 2nd day, but then didnt go again till like 3 days later. He slowly went from that time period in between till every other day to mostly every day now. But he's had a few poop incidents in the past week but we also were traveling and I wonder if that had something to do with it  too cuz he was out of his element and also had some pee accidents too. Just rememer that this too shall pass! But We just kept trying to get Jack to see when he had to go and he'd go back and forth to the potty like 10 times in 5 minutes and as he slowly worked it through his body he'd finally got on the potty. We found that getting him to try and sit longer didnt help cuz he wasn't really used to pooping sitting down so he would run around and work it throug his body until he was just about to go and then woudl finally sit on the potty. good luck!

  • Miralaxx.  Use it.  Everyday.  Eli was on it for months per our pedi's recommendation b/c he got so constipated not wanting to go like that.  It doesn't upset their tummy or give them diarrhea, it just makes things easier :)

  • Camryn didn't really have issues with pooping when she potty trained (which really wasn't training since she just started going on her own one day).  But she has had some pretty big issues with constipation in the last few months.  We're supposed to use Miralax everyday but it makes things too messy for us with it not being solid and we have to resort to pull ups.  We are just using it as needed for now.  So if he's gone a few days without pooping, you might want to mix a dose in some juice for him to get things moving.  I think her biggest issue is she is just too busy to poop sometimes.  So if it's been a day or two since she pooped, we give her a dose to help things move along.

  • Sorry the Miralaxx is making things messy for you Wendy.  It didn't affect Eli like that fortunately.  Have you tried just using a smaller dose?

We have graduated to fiber gummies now.  He gets one every morning with his vitamin.  It keeps things moving along :)

  • Thanks ladies.  He was up every hour last night to unsuccessfully sit on the potty.  I am so freakin' tired and frustrated (and so is he).  He finally pooped in his pullup when he woke at 6:30 this morning.  Now he's already telling me he needs to go again (and I've seen the smear in his undies to prove it).

We've got him on fiber gummies and prune juice, and I think he really does need to go, but is holding it in.  I just don't know how to get him to go on the potty.  I guess it will click sooner or later.  the one time he did poop on the potty it started coming out while he was peeing.  I keep hoping for that to happen again LOL!

  • What about having him try while you are going to the bathroom?  He can sit on his and you can sit on yours.  Maybe he will copy you and see how long you sit?    Try warming apple juice or tea.

The Miralaxx won't let him hold it in like that.  I would try it.  That's the only way we got DS going regularly, he had no choice.  And we didn't have any issues with him having accidents with it.  Seems like everyone I know has had this problem with their toddler at some point or another.  My pedi said he sees it everyday.

Yeah, it doesn't work for her to take it everyday at all, so that's why we are taking as needed.  She's also been eating more fruits and veggies than she had been so that is helping.  But tell me about fiber gummies.  I was wondering if there was something else I could give her to help besides Miralax.  I didn't realize there were fiber gummies.

  • we just started with the fiber gummies yesterday! We got them at Target and the only brand my target had was little tummies or whatever that brand is!

  • I get Eli's fiber gummies at Walgreens.  They have them in the probiotic/stool softener section.  I'm not sure what brand they are, I don't think they're Little Tummies, but I'm sure they're all pretty much the same.  The ones I have are for ages 2+.

  • Thanks guys!  I will look into the miralax.  The rest of potty training went so smoothly for us, this pooping business caught me off guard!  The good news is he got himself all caught up today (though not on the potty) but at least he's sleeping comfortably tonight LOL! :)
