donating milk

For those who have done it, please share some info with me (because I'm far too lazy to Google it, myself). What are the most pertinent deets?

Re: donating milk

  • Do it! Here's the link to the milk banking association, here's the link to the Ohio branch. Need a note from your pedi that your kid won't suffer from you donating, and you need a blood test. They pay for everything and give you storage containers.

  • I heard this story recently and there is an Ohio facebook page. I've thought this might be a bit easier for me, but I wanted to look into it a bit more. I haven't gotten to that yet.

Yes! As long as you know what medications you were on when it was expressed.

Thanks for the heads up.....I'm going to start marking that on the freezer bag.  I threw away some EBM with DS because I didn't know what else to do with it.  *GASP*

  • It is simple but you have to sign up to donate like 200ozs (may be less now but it was 200 about a year ago).  You can also only donate milk that is in a deep freeze up to 3mths I think it was so I still had to throw away some away for DD b/c it was longer than 3mths but I was able to donate most of it.  You also have to take it to Children's (schedule with them and they will come out to your car in thheir circle).  It wasn't too hard other than getting to Children's when they had people there to collect the milk.  It was a wonderful experience and I wish I would have known that it was as easy as it was when I had DS.  Also, you can store it in your own bags too, you don't have to use their space consuming containers :)
