Does this annoy anyone else?
Growing up, we would *never* have called one of our aunts or uncles soley by their first name. To this day, it's Aunt XX or Uncle XX. One of my aunts is only 10 years older than I am and I still call her Aunt XX.
So - when I had nieces and nephews, I naturally assumed they'd call me Aunt Heather. My siblings' kids do - but J's don't...even though I was around before they could talk, in some cases. They don't to any of their aunts or uncles, it's not just me.
That's just weird to me.
Am I alone?
Re: PW (sorry): Spin off of Mr./Mrs.
I no longer call my Aunts, Aunt XX I did when I was a child. My nieces (1 one on my side one on H's side) both call me Auntie Nichole (cole for the younger one). It wouldn't annoy me though if they didn't. They also call H Uncle Ryan.
ETA: T doesn't call any of his Aunts or Uncles that, but he doesn't really understand. He just calls them by their first names.
My niece is 16 and still calls me "Auntie Brynn". I love it, and wouldn't have it any other way.
So yes, I'm with you. I would think it's weird if nieces/nephews didn't use the title aunt/uncle.
I call my aunts and uncles by just their first names now. I used to use aunt annd uncle first name though. My niece is almost 2 and just calls me Auntie and DH Uncle. She knows DH's name is Gage (we say "who is Gage?" and she responds "uncle!") but has no clue what my name is.
I'm on the complete opposite end of this. As long as I can remember, I've called my aunts, uncles, and grandparents on my mom's side by their first names.
But, this was because we have a family business and it is not appropriate to be in that environment yelling "GRANDMA" in front of customers.
All of my aunts and uncles also called my grandparents by their first names, my cousins call their father by his first name (but not their Mom, weird I know). No one uses aunt, uncle, grandma, etc after about 5 years old (at the oldest!) in my family.
This for me as well! It's just natural for me now. I hope that my future nieces/nephews will call me "Aunt Suzie" and not just my FN..
We were split on what we called our aunts and uncles. On my Mom's side it was always Uncle George even as an adult. We called his wife Tis tis ( not sure where that came from,). On my Dad's side we call all our Aunts and Uncles by their first name. We refer to my sister as Auntie and DS calls her TT. Only because most kids can't say Lisa. When he gets older she has said he can call her whatever he wants.
I still use the title with my aunts/ uncles before their name. That's just who they are to me. I have just one niece that I've only met once, so I have no idea what her dad referrers to us as. I'd like to becalled Aunt [my name]. My cousins go to the extreme and have their kids call their cousins Cousin [first name]. I think that's too much.
I don't like the title Auntie when it's not family. It's cutesey when it's about pets, but we want to use the title for family.
I said "Aunt" and "Uncle" when I was young, but I've called them by their first names since I was probably in my early-20's. My nephews call my husband and I "Auntie" and "Uncle." We plan to continue that with our kids, too. But once they're adults, I don't know if it will matter to me. I guess I'll find out in a couple decades. :-)
ETA:
Oh, this is true for me, too. I grew up with a very extended family of aunts/uncles, great aunts/uncles, and great grandparents. The great aunts/uncles are still called "Aunt" and "Uncle," even now. But normal aunts/uncles are not. Maybe it's the age difference? My aunts/uncles are mostly 8-15 years older than me. But the great aunts/uncles are more like 40 years older.

I still call my aunts and uncles by title. N sometimes calls my sister by her first name and I keep correcting him to use Aunt. He?ll call my friends Aunt First Name, but not my sister. I?d rather have my friends just be first name and my sister Aunt. I?m aunt to some of my friends kids and it?s sweet and I love it, but it?ll be a much bigger deal to me when it?s my actual nieces and nephews.
We also use Aunt and Uncle for DH?s cousin and his fianc?e.
We're kind of weird with this.
I'm an only child and DH only has one brother. Our nephews call DH by his first name. Our girls will more than likely call my BIL by his first name.
Our friends are a different story. Our friends are always Auntie/Uncle.
We have more of a familial relationship with our friends than we do with DH's brother even though he's blood.
Unable to even.

Starting around age five or six, my sister and I called our aunts and uncles by their first names (none of them live around here, so we didn't see them often). Now that I think about it, it was probably because we also had several "honorary" aunts and uncles and by calling them by their first names, it was easier than trying to figure out who actually was Aunt XXX or Uncle XXX.
In DH's family, though, they do say Aunt XXX or Uncle XXX. It's still a little weird for me that my nieces and nephews call me Auntie Jenn ... or just Auntie, but I have adopted the same practice with Collin. Poor kid's going to be confused enough since my sister and SIL have names that are VERY similar.
Yep. Me too.
I still call all my aunts and uncles Aunt [so-and-so] and Uncle [so-and-so]. I don't think my mom's side would mind first names only, but my dad's big Eurorpean family thinks it's disrespectful to call aunts and uncles by their first name. I tried to test this as a teenager and got schooled!
It absolutely melts my heart when Sterling calls me "Auntie Katie." I don't think that I would have it any other way now. And we all make it a point to put "Auntie" or "Uncle" in front of each other's names so that our LOs learn to do it. That's just how our family rolls though!
