PGD

My RE has not fully explained this to me.  What happens to the embryos if they are found to be abnormal?

Re: PGD

  • At least at my clinic, they are discarded.  These embryos cannot be transferred.

  • I haven't had this done, but I assume they would be discarded unless you wanted them transferred.

  • Ours went to research....we had the option of discarding or research.
  • I assumed as much, but I wanted to find out for sure.  My friend was asking the other day, and I said I didn't know the protocol.  She has some very strong opinions on this, and I think I'm going to need to lay some boundaries as far as our discussions go.  Personally, I'd love to donate them to stem cell research if they would be wanted for that purpose.

This for us too.  Our RE had us sign a form whether or not we were okay with them using the abnormal ones for further research.

  • We started down the path of PGD, but ended up deciding with a Genetics Counselor that it wasn't the right path for us (long story that involves incorrect interpretation of genetic testing on the baby we lost).

Our plan was to donate to research.
