My company is sending 20 people to D.C. in September to participate in the Komen 3-Day Walk, in which participants walk 60 miles over a 3-day period. We will probably start TTC #2 later this year but I'm not sure if it will be before September. If I do end up PG before then, I would likely only be a couple of months PG at the time of the walk since I can't see me wanting to start TTC in the next month or two. Is walking 20 miles a day too risky while PG or do y'all think it would be okay? I've never participated in this event before so I have no idea what to expect.
Re: Would you participate in Komen 3-Day Walk while PG?
i think it depends on your fitness level prior to being pg. would 20 miles a day be fine for you now? no problems? then I don't think your doc would have a problem with it. if it would be a stretch for you now, then they'll probably tell you not to.
my BFF did the MS150 about 8 weeks pg, but she's super-in-shape and had no ill-effects.
I had a pregnancy scare earlier this year when I was training for my marathon. I went in to get a blood test and while waiting for the results saw my OB in the hall and she stopped to talk with me for a second. She said if I did end up pregnant, she would give me the go ahead to run the marathon (which was at that point maybe a month out) since I'd been doing the training and my body was physically capable of doing it.
Obviously, I wasn't pregnant. But if I had, I absolutely would've ran the marathon, especially after talking to my doc.
I think it depends on your level of fitness and how well you've prepared for the walk.
I was training for a half marathon while we were TTC. My doctor was fine with it since the majority of my training I would not have been pregnant so my body would have been use to the heavy exercise.
If you are just walking and are training and preparing your body for the walk then I think it would be OK....excluding any pregnancy complications of course. It's not like you couldn't stop at any point during the walk. They have tons of medic tents and stops along the way so I don't think that getting help or resting would be a problem.
My girlfriend did but she had been doing it for years beforehand. She runs the Betty Boobs....
