reflux & tummy time

I want my DS to be able to have tummy time, but his reflux really limits the amount of tummy time he gets.  He started doing mini push ups about a month ago, but hasn't progressed much further from there.  I was wondering if you have any advice to increase tummy time or an alternative exercise we can do to help strengthen those muscles?

Re: reflux & tummy time

  • We didn't find anything to substitute good ole floor time for Evan. He had severe reflux/vomiting that were affecting his weight gain and we could not risk a puke just for some floor time. Unfortunately he did end up further behind with his gross motor due to this. He didn't crawl till 16months/12 adjusted and didn't walk till 20months/16 adjusted. As he got older and could handle more floor time we just introduced it more and more.

A good friend of mine always says that we often have to deal with the bigger problem currently at hand rather than a potential problem of the future. You're aware, and are trying, that's all anyone can ask.

  • Andrew puked so much during floor time, but I don't know that there is much around it, other than trying to do the bulk of floor time just prior to feedings!
  • The occupational therapist told us to try holding him in the air in a superman position or across our knees (just not putting pressure on his stomach).  Hope you find something that works for you. GL

  • We also did tummy time leaning on the boppy- this way the boppy put pressure on his chest and it took some off the tummy.
