Subaru opinions?

Jumping over from The Nest - heard that some of you have Subaru's and might be able to help!

Thoughts on the 2010 and 2011 Forester and Outback models? I would prefer to have a little more space with the Outback, but if both dog crates can fit in the (more affordable) Forester, then I think we'll go that way.

Also, any recommendations/warnings about the Subaru dealerships here in town?

Re: Subaru opinions?

  • We bought a 2011 Outback at Austin Subaru mid-March. I love it. I've already put over 3K miles on it! I drove a Forester while they were putting my fabric protectant and tint on, and I hated it. DH test drove one, and he didn't like it either. The smoother ride and driving experience with the Outback was worth the extra money for us. The Forester felt REALLY cheap to drive.. cheaper than the Civic I was driving at the time. It was horribly jumpy during acceleration.

For the long trips we have taken (Mobile,AL and Lafayette, LA), we get about 28-29 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good.

  • I have a 2010 Outback that I love.  I agree with you, SarahPLiz, about the cheap feel and poor acceleration of the Forester.  I had it as a loaner car while some work was done on my Outback and it drove like a piece of crap.

    I've seen it. It's priddy =)

ETA: If you want a low/no pressure test drive, go to CARMAX. You can always compare prices while you're there but they have absolutely no pressure sales. Easy.

    Fantastic idea - thanks!
  • We have a 2009 Outback.  Love it.  We've had a really good experience with the dealership up in Georgetown (north of the RR outlets).  We were looking into buying used, but they hold their value really well so it made more sense to buy new.

  • I have a 2009 forester (the redesign) and love it.  I don't think it drives like crap-we bought it over a CRV and Rav4.  That said, it is so small so I would def go with an outback.  With a stroller in the back it feels like we have no other space.
