Overnight leaking

Kyle keeps leaking through his diaper at night. He is 8 months and weighs 23 pounds. We have been placing him in size 4 Huggies overnight diapers and he is still leaking through. Poor little guy is drenched in the morning. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Can you go the size up?

  • Are you making sure he gets changed right before bed time (not trying to offend you)? Try cutting back how much he drinks a couple of hours before bed. I've realized that Huggies leaks a lot more once the baby gets bigger, so you might want to try Pampers Cruisers or More Dry's or what ever you prefer. We haven't had an issue since we switched. Good luck!
  • I would also try going up the next size even though he may not be the weight it says on the box. Anytime Rena leaked through at night I knew it was time to move up a size. Is he really tall for his age? This was the problem we had with Rena- she's really tall and the overnight diapers were too short and she would leak out the top of them.

  • The overnight diaper he is currently in is for babies that weigh 22-37 pounds and he is only 23. He is larger for his age. The last time we measured him he was in the 70th percentile. We do put him in his diaper right before bed but we also give him a 4 ounce bottle with his baby food right before bed too.

I will try to give him the bottle earlier and I guess we will need to experiment with a new diaper at night. Thanks guys.

  • Evan is only about 23 pounds and we have him in size 5 Pampers extra protection at night. He is a long skinny baby and the Huggies just weren't fitting him right. We use either Huggies or Kirkland (Costco brand) size 4 durning the day.

  • Kolby is 24lbs at almost 10months.  We have been in 4s for a while.  I moved him up to 5s overnight last week because we are leaking all the time.  For the last two nights we have not had any issues. We also use huggies.
  • C wears a size bigger overnight than he does during the day.  Go to the 5's.  He still leaks out every once in a while, but it is a lot better.

  • A trick my midwife taught me: put his disposable on, then fold up a cloth insert into it (they are the prefolds you can find in Target, Walmart, Babies R Us, etc.. in the plastic 3 or 6 packs.. plain white, some ppl use them for burp cloths). This absorbs a bunch so the disposable doesn't have so much to catch. Another idea is to change him right before you go to bed if you go to bed about 2 hours after he does or so... a final thought, that others have said, is to give him his last drink/meal about 1-2 hours before bedtime if he will allow for it without waking earlier in the a.m... Good luck. :)
