I want to quit

I am going through a massive wave of "I want to quit my job" right now.

DD's babysitter was "fired" over the weekend after a situation arose that I was not comfortable or happy with. So now I'm fumbling to find daycare for her until the end of June, when my mom will take over full time.

It's so hard for me to be so crunched for time to find her a place to go during the day. And it's getting harder and harder to leave her at all - she's getting so alert and is always so happy to see me, and when we cuddle up for her morning feeding, I don't want it to end...

So I just needed to ramble. Because I want to be home with my daughter, not here at the office.

Re: I want to quit

  • I'm sorry about this :(  I go back next week and I want to quit already.  :(  What happened with your babysitter?

  • I'm right there with you. Everyone says it gets easier to be at work as time goes on, but the cuter and more alert my LO gets, the harder it gets to leave him each morning.

Babysitter's boyfriend decided he didn't think she was being paid enough (I gave her $20/day, equivalent to many daycares in my area) and came to my house, banged on my door until I answered it (I was nursing DD at the time) and verbally assaulted me. Indifferent I don't do drama, so I told her to hit the road.

DH said he'd be okay with my giving up work but I can't - I'd lose my insurance and I do enjoy what I do. I'm thinking about talking to my editor about working part time or from home until my mom is done in June... can't hurt to ask.

  • My mom gave me great advice about whether to go back to work or not.  You have your whole life to have a career, but your child will only be a baby for such a short time.  If you feel in your heart that you want/need to be home with her, try to find a way to make it happen.  I know how you feel.  I don't want to miss any moments with DS, either, so we've been trying to find a way that I can stay home with him.  Money will be a little tight, but to me, it's worth it for the time being so that I can be the one to raise my son.
